Allied Instrumentation is seeking a driven, relationship-focused Account Manager to expand our presence throughout the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding industrial markets. This is a true hunter role designed for a motivated sales professional who enjoys prospecting, opening new accounts, building long-term customer relationships, and winning business in competitive industrial environments.
The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time in the field meeting with customers, identifying opportunities, influencing specifications, and delivering technical solutions that solve real-world operational challenges. This is a highly customer-facing, field-based sales position offering uncapped earning potential for individuals motivated by growth, autonomy, and performance.
What You'll Do
Business Development & Territory Growth
- Develop and execute a strategic territory growth plan focused on new customer acquisition and market expansion.
- Prospect and generate new business opportunities through cold calling, networking, referrals, site visits, industry events, and customer outreach.
- Identify, qualify, and close opportunities within industrial manufacturing, chemical processing, food & beverage, power generation, steel, refining, ethanol, pharmaceutical, water/wastewater, and utility markets.
- Expand relationships within existing accounts while actively pursuing new customers.
- Apply Sandler selling principles to Keep, Attain, Recapture, and Expand customer relationships.
- Develop strong relationships with engineering firms, EPCs, plant personnel, maintenance teams, and procurement organizations.
Customer Engagement & Technical Sales
- Serve as a trusted advisor to plant managers, engineers, maintenance personnel, safety professionals, and purchasing teams.
- Conduct onsite customer visits to identify operational challenges and recommend technical solutions.
- Promote industry-leading instrumentation, automation, and process measurement technologies, including:

- Influence project specifications and position Allied Instrumentation solutions early in the sales cycle.
- Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and solution-based proposals.
- Support customers throughout project development, startup, maintenance, and ongoing operations.
Sales Execution & Pipeline Management
- Maintain a healthy sales pipeline and accurately forecast opportunities using CRM tools.
- Manage opportunities from initial prospecting through quotation, negotiation, and close.
- Collaborate with inside sales, service teams, manufacturer partners, and technical specialists to ensure exceptional customer support.
- Consistently achieve and exceed sales and profitability objectives.
- Provide regular territory activity reports and market intelligence.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of outside sales, business development, industrial sales, or technical sales experience.
- Demonstrated success prospecting, developing, and closing new business opportunities.
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage a large territory.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the assigned territory.
- Ability for overnight travel approximately 25–50% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience selling industrial instrumentation, automation, gas detection, process equipment, valves, measurement technologies, controls, or related technical products.
- Experience calling on manufacturing plants, refineries, chemical facilities, utilities, power plants, or industrial end users.
- Knowledge of industrial process industries and plant operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Technical Sales, or a related field.
- Experience using CRM platforms and managing sales pipelines.
