Adventure Academy of Melissa is seeking a caring, creative, and enthusiastic Pre-Kindergarten Teacher to join our nature-based early childhood program. Our approach combines The Good and the Beautiful curriculum with hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, imaginative play, and elements inspired by Montessori and Waldorf philosophies.
The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education and enjoys creating a warm, engaging environment where children can develop academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and hands-on learning experiences
- Teach early literacy, mathematics, science, practical life skills, and cultural studies
- Encourage independence, curiosity, imaginative play, storytelling, and creative expression
- Incorporate outdoor and nature-based learning into the daily classroom experience
- Integrate art, music, movement, painting, drawing, and other creative activities
- Support each child's individual academic, social, and emotional development
- Create and maintain a positive, nurturing, organized, and respectful classroom environment
- Use effective and age-appropriate classroom management strategies
- Observe student progress and provide additional support when needed
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding student development and progress
- Collaborate with teachers, assistants, and administration
- Participate in staff meetings, school events, and school-wide activities
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field preferred
- Teacher certification is a plus
- Previous experience working with Pre-K or young children
- Montessori and/or Waldorf experience is a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, dependable, adaptable, nurturing, and energetic
- Comfortable teaching and supervising children in an active outdoor environment
- Passion for nature-based, hands-on, and child-centered education
- Artistic or musical abilities, including singing, drawing, painting, or playing an instrument, are a plus
