POSITION GOAL
To provide professional leadership in support of educational programs for exceptional education students of Volusia County Schools
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. *Collaborate in the development of program philosophies, goals and objectives and facilitate their implementation.
2. *Facilitate development and implementation in tracking of goals, objectives and strategies related to transition of students.
3. *Facilitate supported inclusion and mainstreaming of students with disabilities in the general education program where appropriate.
4. *Collaborate in the development, implementation, and tracking of goals, objectives and strategies in the District Strategic Plan. 5. *Provide communication link between area schools and district ESE offices
6. *Provide communication link between schools and ESE program department to facilitate allocation of federal funds.
7. *Maintain contacts with general education specialists, other organizations and outside agencies to foster better communication in program development and support.
8. *Work as a program advocate in helping to create an educational climate where student success is enhanced.
9. *Work as a liaison for state Department of Education (DOE) and district in subject area councils, community organizations and parent groups.
10. *Actively participate in professional organizations and continuously updates knowledge of program area responsibility.
11. *Collaborate to develop and/or restructure service delivery models at the district level and individual school sites.
12. *Develop and articulate curriculum scope, sequence and guidelines for instruction utilizing effective teaching practices.
13. *Make recommendations to help organize, develop, and provide in-service based upon identified teacher needs and best practices for ESE teachers, general education teachers and administrators.
14. *Provide expertise in curriculum, behavior management, service delivery models, consulting teacher programs, classroom organization, and instructional techniques.
15. *Monitor and provide leadership in school programs to assure compliance with statutes, regulations and district policies.
16. *Attend staffings that require specialized expertise.
17. *Function as an information resource, data gatherer/reporter, problem solver and consultant for all direct and indirect services to ESE students.
18. *Identify, develop and implement appropriate program innovations, modifications and improvements.
19. *Organize communication meetings to maintain close working relationships with teachers and school administrators.
20. *Provide technical assistance in classrooms including materials and textbook coordination.
21. *Assist schools in staffing and unit allocation considerations, when assigned.
22. *Facilitate and monitor the distribution of curriculum materials including federally purchased materials.
23. *Assist in writing position papers and handbooks to inform teachers of programs and state requirements.
24. *Serve on the policies and outcome committee to develop, revise, and implement program policies and procedures, as assigned.
25. *Provide assistance for the school improvement process at individual school sites and provide ESE teachers with strategies for involvement.
26. *Assist in the development, selection, and implementation of the district technology initiatives.
27. *Provide assistance and collaborate in the recruitment and retention of ESE teachers.
28. *Supervise designated personnel, including selection, training and performance appraisal.
29. *Provide assistance to district subject area councils and parent groups.
30. Perform other related duties as assigned by Director, Exceptional Student Education and Student Services.
Speech/Language Coordinator
31. *Coordinate the Speech/Language program including speech/language diagnostic and intervention services for Child Find and Head Start, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Audiology, and Vision programs or others as assigned.
32. *Provide direct, support, supervision, evaluation and direction for program personnel.
33. *Ensure Clinical Fellowship Year supervision and intern placement as needed.
34. *Assist in active recruitment and placement of qualified program personnel either by direct hire or contracting with district approved vendors as necessary.
35. *Assist with overseeing Medicaid billing for eligible speech/language services and training for proper submission of claims.
