Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures including general restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials, ensuring proper aseptic techniques and infection control protocols are followed.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray images), including 3D scans when applicable, while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
- Manage patient records using Dentrix, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide chairside assistance by handing instruments, managing suction devices, and monitoring vital signs during procedures.
- Educate patients on dental terminology, treatment plans, and post-procedure care to promote understanding and cooperation.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and assisting the dental receptionist with medical documentation and records management.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinic environment by adhering to infection control standards and sterilization procedures.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant or in a similar dental clinic setting; familiarity with general dentistry practices is essential.
- Must have a dental radiographer certificate in good standing.
- Proficiency with dental software systems such as Dentrix.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners safely and effectively.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to medical records and patient privacy.
- Excellent communication skills to explain procedures clearly to pediatric patients and their families; experience in pediatrics is advantageous.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
