The Ophthalmic Assistant provides clinical support to ophthalmologists, optometrists, and residents by assisting in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and disorders. This position performs ophthalmic testing, prepares patients for examination, documents clinical information, and helps ensure efficient clinic operations while providing excellent patient care.
- Prepare patients for examination by obtaining and documenting medical and ocular histories, medications, allergies, and chief complaints.
- Measure and record visual acuity, intraocular pressure, pupil responses, extraocular motility, confrontation visual fields, and other basic ophthalmic assessments.
- Perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing, visual fields, corneal topography, pachymetry, biometry, and other testing as assigned.
- Administer ophthalmic medications and diagnostic drops as directed.
- Assist physicians and residents during examinations, injections, laser procedures, and minor office procedures.
- Accurately document patient information, test results, and provider findings in the electronic medical record.
- Prepare, clean, and stock examination rooms and maintain ophthalmic equipment according to infection prevention and safety standards.
- Educate patients on testing, medications, and treatment instructions as directed by the provider.
- Promote efficient patient flow by coordinating with providers and other clinic staff.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission, and organizational policies.
- Participate in training, quality improvement initiatives, and perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
Experience: No experience required
Licensure: American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling: (distance: 50 feet), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 – 100lbs. May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
The pay range for this role is $18.37 - $28.47 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
