Responsibilities
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and injections accurately following prescribed protocols, including IV infusions and medication management.
- Operate and document using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks to ensure precise medical documentation.
- Provide specialized care in areas such as cardiology (including catheterization), ophthalmology (including botulinum toxin treatments), geriatrics (memory care and long-term care), behavioral health, hospice & palliative medicine, and trauma medicine.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations like laboratory specimen collection, phlebotomy, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and assist with imaging procedures such as sonography or mammography when applicable.
- Manage complex patient needs including acute pain management, infection control, aseptic techniques, ventilator management, tube feeding, ostomy care, and wound suturing.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals during emergency responses such as Level I & II trauma center procedures or ICU critical care situations.
- Educate patients and families on health coaching topics including medication administration, discharge planning, nutrition, and chronic disease management.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain meticulous medical records for legal and quality assurance purposes.
Experience
- Proven experience working in diverse clinical environments such as hospital medicine, emergency room (ER), intensive care units (ICU), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), pediatric units, or outpatient clinics.
- Critical care experience including ventilator management, trauma response (Level I & II Trauma Center experience), or cardiac catheterization procedures is highly valued.
- Strong background in medical-surgical nursing with familiarity in ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding for procedures, and laboratory experience including specimen processing.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental delays across settings like assisted living or memory care facilities.
- Knowledge of infectious disease protocols and infection control practices aligned with NCQA standards.
- Skilled in the use of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation of patient data and medical records.
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced nursing procedures including sterile processing techniques, ostomy care, neonatal resuscitation procedures, and spinal taps when applicable.
- Compassionate team player with excellent communication skills capable of triage assessment in urgent care or outpatient settings.
