A postdoctoral fellowship is now available in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's Cell and Developmental Biology Center.
The NHLBI Cell and Developmental Biology Center aims to understand the molecular interactions inside cells that build the organelle systems which support the basic and specialized functions controlling cell fate and behavior. Our researchers combine biochemical, molecular, cellular, genetic, and quantitative approaches to investigate fundamental biological processes across a range of organisms, including fish, flies, mice, mammals, microbes, and viruses.
This fellowship is within the Laboratory of Protein Trafficking and Organelle Biology, which focuses on understanding how cells sense, respond, and adapt to a variety of stress conditions, including nutrient deprivation, organelle damage, and pathogen infection. Our multi-disciplinary and highly-collaborative team includes researchers addressing how alterations in mTOR, TFEB, TFE3, and lysosomal function lead to human disease. Our laboratory also seeks to identify potential sites for therapeutic intervention suitable for further evaluation in translational and clinical research efforts. To do this, we use a wide range of cell biology techniques (molecular biology, protein biochemistry, confocal microscopy) as well as in vivo animal models and iPSC models.
Prospective applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent with less than five years of postdoctoral experience, an ability to conduct independent research, and a strong interest in interdisciplinary approaches and collaborations. Relevant publications in peer review journals are also a must. A strong background in cellular and molecular biology, and/or experience with iPSC models is preferred. Salary will be commensurate with research experience and accomplishments.
