Position Summary
The Director of Nursing oversees all nursing services at Sunshine Pediatric Day Center, a licensed Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Center (PPECC). The DON ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, family-centered nursing care to medically and technologically dependent pediatric patients in full compliance with 26 TAC Chapter 550 and the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate all nursing staff (RNs, LVNs) and direct care staff.
- Develop, implement, and audit nursing policies, procedures, and individualized plans of care.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with 26 TAC Chapter 550 and HHSC licensing requirements.
- Coordinate plans of care with physicians, families, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Maintain accurate medical records and all required regulatory documentation.
- Lead Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
- Oversee staffing ratios, scheduling, and competency validation for all nursing personnel.
- Direct onboarding, orientation, and continuing education programs for nursing staff.
- Serve as primary point of contact for HHSC surveyors and regulatory inspections.
- Participate in hiring, performance management, and corrective action for nursing staff.
- Partner with the Regional Director of Nursing on clinical strategy, KPIs, and reporting.
- Mentor Charge RNs and the ADON to develop the next generation of nursing leaders.
Required Qualifications (per 26 TAC §550.309)
- Active, unencumbered Texas RN license under Texas Occupations Code Chapter 301, with no disciplinary action.
- Current Pediatric CPR (PALS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Minimum two (2) years of supervision and management experience in a pediatric setting caring for medically or technologically dependent minors — OR — two years of supervision in pediatric ICU (PICU), neonatal ICU (NICU), pediatric emergency, a PPECC, pediatric home health or hospice, pediatric ambulatory surgical center, or two consecutive years of comparable pediatric unit experience in a hospital.
- Completion of HHSC pre-licensing training "Overview of Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Center Licensing Standards in Texas" within 30 days of hire.
- Full-time employment with the center (regulatory requirement under 26 TAC §550.309).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior PPECC, pediatric home health, or pediatric long-term care leadership experience
- Charge RN, supervisor, or clinical lead experience
- English/Spanish
- Familiarity with Texas Medicaid and managed care authorizations
- BSN or MSN

Physical Requirements
