Join our dynamic waste management team as a Garbage Truck Helper! In this energetic role, you will assist with the safe and efficient collection of municipal waste, supporting the operation of various types of garbage trucks including front loader, rear loader, and roll-off trucks. Duties
- Assist the driver with loading, unloading, and securing waste materials in compliance with safety protocols and hazardous materials regulations
- Support the operation of front loader, rear loader, and roll-off trucks by handling waste containers and debris
- Perform heavy lifting tasks to load trash bins onto trucks efficiently and safely
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment such as garbage trucks, ensuring mechanical knowledge is applied to identify minor issues before they escalate
- Follow traffic laws and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations during route driving to ensure safe transportation of waste materials
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas and ensure adherence to safety protocol guidelines at all times
- Support route driving activities by assisting with navigation, load & unload processes, and customer service interactions
Requirements
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and outdoor work in various weather conditions
- Prior experience with commercial truck driving or delivery driver roles is preferred
- Knowledge of traffic laws, state transportation regulations, and hazard materials regulations is highly desirable
- Familiarity with air brake systems, manual transmission vehicles, and mechanical knowledge related to garbage trucks is a plus
- Strong commitment to safety protocol adherence and defensive driving skills
- Excellent customer service skills for interacting professionally with residents and clients
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience operating front-end loaders or rear loaders is advantageous
- Prior experience working in solid waste management or municipal waste collection is preferred
