Nursery Coordinator
First United Methodist Church Victoria
Reports To: Senior Pastor
The Nursery Coordinator provides a safe, welcoming nursery for infants and young children during church activities. This position supports the mission of First United Methodist Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ by partnering with families to ensure children are cared for in a loving, Christ-centered setting.
Qualifications:
● Strong Christian faith and a commitment to the mission of First United Methodist Church
● Experience caring for infants and young children is preferred.
● Excellent communication and organizational skills.
● Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
● Current CPR and First Aid certifications or willingness to obtain.
● Ability to pass a criminal background check and complete Safe Gatherings training.
Key Responsibilities:
Nursery Operations
· Coordinate and schedule nursery workers to ensure adequate staffing for worship services, Wednesday evening programming, special events, and other church activities as needed.
· Maintain a clean, organized and welcoming nursery.
· Prepare the nursery for scheduled activities and ensure it is cleaned and secured afterward.
· Ensure toys, supplies, furniture and equipment are clean, age-appropriate, and in good condition.
· Maintain attendance records and sign-in/sign-out procedures.
Child Safety and Care
· Ensure compliance with all church child protection policies, Safe Gatherings requirements, and nursery procedures at all times.
· Respond appropriately to accidents, injuries, illnesses or emergencies and complete required incident reporting.
· Report safety concerns or policy violations promptly to the Senior Pastor.
· Maintain confidentiality about children, families, and church matters.
Communication
· Welcome families and create a positive first impression for visitors.
· Communicate professionally and compassionately with parents and guardians regarding their children’s needs.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift and carry infants and young children up to approximately 30 pounds.
· Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and stoop.
· Ability to move quickly in response to children’s needs or emergencies.
· Ability to remain attentive and actively supervise children throughout assigned shifts.
Expectations
· Support and uphold the mission, values, and policies of First United Methodist Church.
· Work collaboratively with the Senior Pastor and church staff to ensure dependable nursery coverage and support the overall ministry of the church.
· Be present and engaged during assigned worship services, Wednesday evening programming, and other scheduled church activities requiring nursery care.
· Foster a welcoming, caring, and Christ-centered environment for children and their families.
· Perform other duties as assigned that support the ministry and mission of First United Methodist Church.
Benefits & Salary
· This is a part-time hourly position of less than 10 hours per week. Time off approved by Senior Pastor.
· One Sunday off per quarter with advance scheduling and approval.
· Job performance and compensation will be evaluated annually by the Senior Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
