Port Captain
Supervises:
Tug Captains.
Description of Duties:
The Port Captain Manages day-to-day marine operations including vessel traffic, licensed and unlicensed deck personnel, and facilities to assure port operations reliability and efficiency.
Manage local fleet operations, and schedule maintenance and repairs, in support of local quality safety and environmental goals, monitor progress towards those goals and take corrective and preventive action to ensure that these goals are achieved.
Set standards for safety of crew in accordance with all applicable safety rules, regulation, industry standards, and best practices
First point of contact for issues relating to the deck department
Prepare budgets and supervise expenditures related to the deck department.
Oversee all operational functions including, but not limited to, certification and evaluation of marine personnel.
Ensure that all tugs and operations comply with all local and federal laws and regulations
Interact with regulatory agencies and civil authorities to keep vessels and personnel in compliance with all known regulations
Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel and email programs.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Current USCG Master of Towing Vessels license, 1600 GT license preferred.
Current USCG Merchant Mariner’s Credential.
Current Transportation Worker’s Identification Card.
Must possess a wide range of operating knowledge of all the towing services.
Must have the ability to motivate shipboard and shore side personnel with an emphasis on regulatory agency compliance.
Previous experience as Port Captain or shore-based experience helpful.
Towing and ship assist experience is required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a sedentary office environment operating computers, telephones, radios and standard office equipment.
Capable of climbing ladders and safely embarking / disembarking moored vessels.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $130,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
