The Catholic Diocese of Richmond is seeking a highly qualified Family Service Advisor to serve at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Palmyra, VA.
This position is part of the Office of Cemeteries and is responsible for guiding families through both pre-need and at-need cemetery planning using a compassionate, “Family First” approach.
The Family Service Advisor will work closely with families to present cemetery and memorial options, follow established diocesan procedures, and maintain accurate records related to planning and burial coordination. The successful candidate will be organized, empathetic, and committed to upholding the dignity and teachings of the Catholic Church throughout all family interactions.
This role includes responsibilities in both community outreach and cemetery operations, including assisting at committal services, presenting memorial design options, and maintaining regular follow-up with families. Strong attention to detail, interpersonal communication, and time management are essential. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required, and familiarity with the teachings and structure of the Catholic Church is expected.
An Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred, with a minimum of three years of cemetery or related experience. A practicing Catholic is strongly preferred. The ability to maintain confidentiality, manage multiple priorities, and build trusted relationships with families is essential to success in this role.
This role is currently part time at 15 hours per week and it reports to the Director of Cemeteries.
