For more than 50 years, we have connected businesses, entrepreneurs, community leaders, nonprofits, and public partners to strengthen the local economy and improve the quality of life for those who live, work, and visit the Outer Banks.
We're looking for an organized, energetic, and community-minded individual to join our team as a Member & Community Engagement Coordinator.
This is more than an administrative position.
This role sits at the intersection of membership engagement, program management, event planning, community building, and office operations. It is an opportunity to make an immediate impact while helping shape the future of one of the region's most influential organizations.

Work Environment
The Outer Banks Chamber is a relationship-driven organization, and this role plays an important part in creating a welcoming and engaging experience for our members, visitors, business owners, and community partners.
Because of the highly collaborative and member-facing nature of the position, this is a primarily in-office role based at the Chamber's office in Kill Devil Hills.
The successful candidate will spend most of their time:
- Welcoming and assisting members, visitors, and business owners
- Supporting day-to-day office operations
- Collaborating with teammates on Chamber initiatives
- Coordinating programs, events, and special projects
- Representing the Chamber at meetings, ribbon cuttings, and community events
While we value flexibility and work-life balance, the nature of this role requires a regular in-person presence to ensure exceptional member service and support the Chamber's mission.

The ideal candidate understands what makes the Outer Banks special.
Whether through personal experience, professional involvement, volunteer leadership, or long-standing community ties, candidates should have a genuine appreciation for the businesses, organizations, people, and unique character of our region.
A strong understanding of the Outer Banks business community, tourism economy, local culture, and key community stakeholders is highly preferred.
Because this position serves as a connector between the Chamber and the community, candidates with strong local relationships and knowledge of the Outer Banks are strongly encouraged to apply.
What You'll Do
Membership Engagement & Community Building (35%)
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Chamber members, business owners, and community partners.
- Welcome and onboard new members.
- Help members maximize the value of their Chamber investment.
- Conduct outreach and engagement activities.
- Support membership growth and retention efforts.
- Serve as a welcoming ambassador for the Chamber.
Programs & Event Management (35%)
- Support the planning and execution of Chamber programs and initiatives.
- Assist with Leadership OBX, networking events, ribbon cuttings, business awards, educational programs, workforce initiatives, and special projects.
- Coordinate registrations, logistics, communications, vendors, volunteers, and follow-up activities.
- Help create memorable and impactful experiences for members and attendees.
Office Operations & Member Services (20%)
- Serve as a first point of contact for members, visitors, and community partners.
- Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and assist walk-in visitors.
- Support CRM management, data entry, reporting, and administrative functions.
- Help improve internal systems and workflows.
- Assist with day-to-day office operations and special projects.
Marketing & Communications Support (10%)
- Assist with social media, email communications, and event promotion.
- Help tell the stories of Chamber members and community impact.
- Support marketing initiatives and member recognition efforts.
Other Duties as Assigned

Compensation & Bonus Opportunities
Base Hourly Rate: $16–$20/hour, depending on experience
In addition to hourly compensation, team members may be eligible for performance-based bonuses tied to:
- Membership growth and retention
- Event attendance and success
- Sponsorship support
- Program participation
- Special projects and organizational initiatives
We anticipate the on-target earnings for this role to be between $18-$24/hour.
