Position Overview:
Due to grant funding requirements, eligibility for this position is limited to individuals who reside in Baltimore City.
The Camp Director will lead hands-on STEM activities for rising 3rd-8th graders and oversee the planning, implementation, and daily operations of the Black SONs Summer STEM Camp at Coppin State University. The Camp Director is responsible for managing staff, including youthworks students, coordinating camp logistics, attending all field trips and delivering high-quality STEM programming. This is a hands-on role with the primary objective of providing a fun and educational summer camp experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Camp Planning & Organization:
- Ensure all materials, supplies, and equipment are ready for camp activities.
- Ensure staff adhere to camp policies, safety guidelines, and provide a positive experience for campers.
- Oversee the daily activities of campers, ensuring a safe, organized, and inclusive environment.
- Implement and monitor safety protocols, emergency procedures, and ensure that all campers are properly accounted for during camp hours.
- Address any camper or parent concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Manage daily camp operations, including camper check-in/check-out procedures.
- Oversee the use of the facilities and ensure classrooms and activity stations are set up and maintained.
- Parent & Community Relations:
- Act as the main point of contact for parents, keeping them informed about camp activities and progress.
- Manage communication between camp staff, parents, and the community.
- Provide updates on camper progress and handle any issues that arise during the camp session.
- Camp Evaluation & Reporting:
- Complete weekly progress report
- Collect feedback from staff, campers, and parents at the end of camp to evaluate the success of the camp.
- Provide a final report summarizing the camp's achievements and challenges for future improvements.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, STEM, or a related field.
- Maryland Teacher Certification
- Experience:
- Proven experience managing a summer camp, youth program, or educational programs.
- At least 2 years of leadership experience in an educational or camp setting.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively manage a team of diverse staff members.
- Experience with STEM education or youth enrichment programs.
- Other Requirements:
- Must be available on-site at Coppin State University from June 22 - July 31, 2026.
- Must pass fingerprint-based Criminal Background Check
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of camp).
- Ability to maintain a positive and supportive environment for campers and staff.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Work Schedule:Monday through Thursday; 8 AM - 5PM
- Compensation: $37.00 per hour (non-exempt).
