Job Summary
Join our multi specialty Ophthalmology Practice as an experience retina scribe. Accurately assist the physician in preparing for the exam, documenting the care plan in real time, intraocular injections, lasers and coding. This position is fast paced, requires critical thinking skills, and proficiency in terminology, computer applications, rapid data entry. Previous medical scribe or ophthalmology experienced preferred. A knowledge of Nextech would helpful, but not required.
Duties
- Conduct patient intake, including gathering medical history and explaining procedures with clarity and empathy
- Prepare patients for examinations by applying aseptic techniques and ensuring proper eye positioning for diagnostic tests
- Assist ophthalmologists during exams and procedures, including slit-lamp exams, tonometry, and visual acuity testing
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient information accurately and efficiently
- Perform optical testing procedures, including refraction and visual field assessments, utilizing specialized equipment
- Maintain a clean and sterile environment following aseptic techniques to prevent infection and ensure safety standards are met
- Provide exceptional patient care by addressing questions, offering post-procedure instructions, and ensuring comfort throughout visits
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an ophthalmology technician or in a related clinical role with a focus on eye care or optics
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to ophthalmology and pediatrics when applicable
- Familiarity with EMR systems platforms for documentation and record management
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically across diverse populations
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times
- Ability to perform clinical assessments including intake procedures, and optical testing
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail for managing medical records and clinic operations
