Peer Recovery Coach
Job Description:
The Peer Recovery Coach provides support and mentorship to individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorder, using their own lived experience to build trust and foster a supportive, professional relationship. This role involves empowering participants to create and maintain their own recovery plan, connecting them with community resources, and providing emotional encouragement to overcome barriers to recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorder, while establishing a professional relationship based on trust and lived experience.
- Meet individually with participants, ideally in-person, or virtually, by phone, or in various community settings.
- Share personal stories related to substance use and recovery to inspire and empower participants.
- Empower individuals to create and maintain their own recovery plan.
- Provide emotional and influential support while connecting participants with community resources based on their needs, including self-help groups, social service agencies, and life skills classes.
- Connect individuals with life skills and resources, while acting as a role model and mentor.
- Provide resources to remove barriers to recovery, while offering hope, motivation, and encouragement.
- Attend bi-weekly team meetings, monthly FAN forums, and agency events related to coaching.
- Complete coaching documentation concisely and efficiently.
- Participate in monthly case-review sessions focusing on participant-centered care.
- Maintain confidentiality of participants in accordance with state and federal guidelines (HIPAA).
- Represent the organization in a professional manner in all regards.
- Maintain knowledge of all FAN programs and national trends in substance abuse prevention and treatment, including harm reduction.
- Be supportive of all paths to recovery.
- Set and manage personal and professional boundaries effectively.
- Willingness to travel – 75% (Preferred).

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 3 continuous years in recovery
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation
- One Year Peer Recovery Coaching (Preferred)
- CCAR certificate & Ethics or MDHHS Certificate required
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Drive, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar)
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., and sit, stand, bend, climb, carry, and/or reach frequently and for extended periods of time
- Successful completion of a background check
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen with 48 hours of being offered a position
Physical Requirements: The employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Peer Recovery Coach Supervisor and Peer Recovery Coach Coordinator
Work Location: Washtenaw and Wayne Counties
Job Type: Hourly Non-Exempt, Full Time up to 40 hours per week
This position is grant-funded and subject to the funding, budget, and timelines within grant provisions.
