Governors Club is seeking a dedicated, reliable, and hands-on maintenance professional to join our team as the Assistant Director of Maintenance. This position plays an integral role in the daily care, upkeep, safety, security, and operational readiness of our award-winning property while supporting the Director of Maintenance in the overall operation of the Maintenance Department.
The Assistant Director of Maintenance serves as a hands-on leader, performing and overseeing routine building maintenance while assisting with the coordination of preventive maintenance, repairs, projects, contractors, departmental requests, and staff coverage. Responsibilities include maintenance and repair work across multiple trades, including carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, painting, and general facility upkeep.
This position is expected to proactively identify facility needs, respond to operational issues, and help ensure the Club's buildings, amenities, equipment, and property consistently meet the high standards expected of a premier private club. The Assistant Director will also serve as a key resource and leader within the department, helping maintain continuity of operations and supporting the Director of Maintenance in delivering a safe, well-maintained, and exceptional Club environment.
This is a full-time, nonexempt hourly position reporting to the Director of Maintenance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist the Director of Maintenance with the daily leadership and operation of the Maintenance Department.

Serve as a key point of contact for maintenance operations in the Director's absence.

Assist with prioritizing, assigning, and following up on maintenance requests and departmental work orders.

Help coordinate daily and weekly maintenance priorities based on Club operations, member activity, events, and facility needs.

Provide direction and support to Maintenance team members as assigned.
-
Assist in developing and maintaining departmental procedures, standards, preventive maintenance schedules, and operating systems.

Maintain strong communication with Club department leaders regarding maintenance needs, project status, facility concerns, and operational impacts.

Help ensure maintenance work is completed efficiently, professionally, safely, and to Club standards.

Participate in weekend and after-hours leadership coverage as scheduled to support Club operations and respond to facility needs.

Perform and oversee general maintenance and repairs throughout Club facilities and property.

Diagnose and correct routine plumbing problems, including faucets, fixtures, toilets, drains, valves, and minor leaks.

Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs involving switches, outlets, lighting, fixtures, and related equipment within appropriate licensing requirements.

Complete carpentry, drywall, painting, remodeling, hardware, door, lock, ceiling tile, and finish repairs.

Replace and maintain interior and exterior lighting as needed.

Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to HVAC and mechanical systems.

Change HVAC filters and perform other routine HVAC maintenance as required.

Inspect, repair, and maintain Club equipment, fixtures, furniture, amenities, and building components.

Assist with minor appliance, kitchen equipment, fitness equipment, and other operational equipment troubleshooting when appropriate.

Complete repairs internally when the work can reasonably and safely be performed by Club staff before engaging outside contractors.

Maintain the interior and exterior appearance of Club facilities through painting, refinishing, repairs, and general upkeep.

Assist in developing, implementing, and completing scheduled preventive maintenance programs throughout Club facilities.

Inspect mechanical rooms, building systems, equipment, amenities, and facilities for developing problems.

Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records, inspection logs, and service schedules.
-
Proactively identify maintenance concerns before they develop into operational disruptions, safety issues, or major repairs.

Assist with routine inspections and maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pool, kitchen, fitness, racquet, clubhouse, and other Club systems and facilities.

Monitor equipment condition and assist with identifying future repair or replacement needs.
-
Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance requests from Club departments.
-
Coordinate with department leaders to minimize disruption to member services while repairs or maintenance work is being completed.

Assist with furniture movement, equipment installation, event setup, and other facility-related operational needs.

Support Club operations during special events, tournaments, holidays, and periods of high activity.

Prepare facilities and property for changing or severe weather conditions and assist with post-weather recovery.

Respond to urgent maintenance issues affecting member or employee safety, comfort, or Club operations.

Assist with recycling, waste removal, and proper disposal of materials as necessary.

Maintain flexibility to respond to changing Club priorities and operational needs.

Oversee the Club's morning golf course security and access-control program in coordination with Golf Operations and Club leadership.

Assist with scheduling, training, communication, and accountability for employees assigned to morning golf course security responsibilities.

Monitor access to the golf course and Club property to help ensure facilities are being utilized only by authorized members, guests, employees, and approved individuals.

Participate in scheduled weekend golf course security and property-monitoring coverage.
-
Conduct periodic patrols and observations of the golf course and surrounding Club property as assigned.

Professionally address or report unauthorized golf course access, improper use of Club property, or suspicious activity in accordance with Club procedures.

Communicate security or access concerns promptly to the appropriate Club leadership.
-
Assist in evaluating and improving procedures designed to protect Club property while maintaining a professional and member-focused environment.

Assist the Director of Maintenance with the coordination and oversight of outside contractors, service providers, and vendors.

Provide contractors with appropriate access to work areas and communicate Club operational requirements.

Monitor contractor activity and work quality when assigned.
-
Assist with obtaining information, proposals, and documentation related to repairs and facility projects.
-
Support renovation, repair, replacement, and capital improvement projects from planning through completion.
-
Help coordinate project schedules to minimize disruption to members and Club operations.
-
Inspect completed work and help ensure project and contractor work areas are left safe, clean, and fully operational.

Assist the Director of Maintenance with identifying facility improvements and future capital needs.

Follow and help reinforce all Club safety procedures and applicable OSHA requirements.

Properly use and maintain tools, ladders, lifts, vehicles, machinery, equipment, and personal protective equipment.

Immediately identify and report unsafe conditions, significant building-system concerns, and potential hazards.

Maintain clean, safe, organized, and professional maintenance shops, mechanical rooms, workspaces, vehicles, and storage areas.
-
Ensure maintenance work areas are appropriately secured and cleaned before being returned to member or employee use.
-
Protect Club assets and exercise appropriate care when working in member-facing areas.
-
Conduct maintenance work with an understanding that appearance, cleanliness, professionalism, and discretion are essential components of the member experience.

Perform other work-related duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Maintenance or Club leadership.
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.
-
Minimum of 3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, commercial maintenance, construction, or a similar hands-on maintenance environment.

Working knowledge of multiple building trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC/refrigeration, painting, and general mechanical systems.
-
Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete routine repairs while recognizing when specialized or licensed contractor support is required.

Ability to safely and effectively operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other maintenance equipment.
-
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple maintenance requests while responding appropriately to changing operational needs.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively as part of a team.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-service and hospitality-oriented mindset.

Previous facilities or maintenance experience within a private club, luxury hotel, resort, healthcare facility, university, commercial property, or other high-service environment.

Trade school, technical training, apprenticeship experience, or professional certification/licensure in one or more applicable trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration, or related fields.

HVAC troubleshooting and repair experience.
-
EPA Section 608 Certification or similar HVAC/refrigeration credential.

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
-
Commercial kitchen-equipment troubleshooting and maintenance experience.
-
Basic knowledge of building automation, energy management, or facility control systems.

Experience working with pumps, motors, boilers, water heaters, refrigeration systems, and similar mechanical equipment.

Previous experience coordinating contractors, vendors, preventive maintenance programs, or small facility improvement projects.

Previous supervisory or team-lead experience within a maintenance, facilities, construction, or similar environment.

Rate of Pay: $23 - $28 per hour
Schedule: Full-time, flexible schedule based on Club volume and operational demands. The Assistant Director of Maintenance will rotate on-call emergency coverage with the Director of Maintenance, covering three days one week and four days the following week.
