As an Interim Director of Nursing (DON) / Director of Health Services (DHS), you’ll support assisted living communities across Minnesota by stepping into leadership roles when communities need stability, guidance, and strong clinical support.
This is not your typical desk job. Every assignment is different, every community has unique needs, and your leadership will truly matter.

What You’ll Be Doing
Clinical Leadership & Operations
- Serve as Interim Director of Nursing (DON) or Director of Health Services (DHS)
- Support assisted living communities during leadership transitions or staffing shortages
- Help stabilize nursing operations and support clinical teams
- Maintain strong standards for resident care, documentation, and compliance
- Guide teams through change with professionalism and positivity
Resident Care & Clinical Oversight
- Conduct resident assessments and oversee individualized care planning
- Support medication management and clinical documentation
- Respond to clinical concerns and help teams navigate challenges
- Lead infection prevention, safety, and quality initiatives
Staff Support & Team Development
- Coach, mentor, and encourage nursing and caregiving staff
- Assist with onboarding, training, and workflow improvement
- Build trust quickly and create a supportive team environment
- Promote accountability while maintaining a positive culture
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) regulations
- Support surveys, audits, and inspections
- Identify opportunities for improvement and help communities succeed
- Monitor quality measures and implement action plans when needed
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, providers, and leadership teams
- Partner with physicians, therapists, pharmacies, and outside providers
- Serve as a trusted clinical resource within each community
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Active Minnesota RN License
- Associate Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
- 2+ years of nursing leadership experience in:
- Assisted Living
- Skilled Nursing
- Long-Term Care
- Strong knowledge of MDH regulations and healthcare compliance
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Minnesota
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Interim DON or DHS in AL setting
- Multi-site leadership experience
- Experience with EHR systems and Microsoft Office
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
