Position Title: Director of Technology
Department: Information Technology
Reports To: CTO
Location: Remote – Central US
Employment Type: Full-time
Travel Requirement: 10-15%
We are looking for a Director of Technology who will bring single-threaded ownership to a technology footprint that has outgrown informal management. We rely on an external IT support team and a growing portfolio of vendor-supplied platforms — and no current role is positioned to manage that complexity end-to-end. You will own vendor performance, close process gaps, drive standardization and automation, and partner with the CTO to ensure our IT strategy translates into disciplined execution. In addition, you will manage the “Sr. IT Support Specialist.”
IT Vendor Management
-
Day-to-day relationship and performance management across our IT vendor portfolio
-
Track contractual obligations and entitlements; validate invoices against usage.
-
Lead periodic business reviews and manage renewals, expansions, and exits.
-
Ensure we get the value we are paying for — and renegotiate or replace when we don’t.
External IT Support Oversight
-
Serve as the internal owner of our outsourced IT support function.
-
Set performance expectations, monitor SLA adherence, and review ticket quality and resolution times.
-
Escalate and course-correct when service standards aren't met.
Process Gap Identification & Remediation
-
Systematically review technology-adjacent processes: onboarding/offboarding, access provisioning, change management, incident response.
-
Identify gaps that create security, regulatory, or operational risk.
-
Drive remediation in partnership with relevant business owners.
Standardization & Automation
-
Identify opportunities to standardize repeating workflows and automate manual effort.
-
Own the business case, oversee execution, and measure realized benefit.
-
Delivery through internal resources, existing platform capabilities, or third parties as appropriate
Enterprise Partnership
-
Partner with product and operations to optimize device and software usage in the field.
-
Plan renewal cycles in advance — avoid reactive autorenewals on tools that no longer earn their keep.
IT Security
-
Maintain baseline security hygiene: enforce joiner/mover/leaver controls, access provisioning standards, and timely account deprovisioning in partnership with our IT Support vendor.
-
Partner with our managed security provider (DeepSeas) to monitor threat posture and ensure remediation actions are followed through.
-
Support incident response processes and ensure documented runbooks exist and are tested.
-
Identify security gaps surfaced through audits, vendor reviews, or internal process reviews and drive closure.
CTO Partnership
-
Translate strategic IT direction into operational execution.
-
Support development of IT roadmaps, vendor frameworks, and technology controls.
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree required.
-
4–8 years in IT management, technology operations, or engineering management. At least 4 of those years spent being hands-on, not just management.
-
Leadership and supervisory experience managing IT Specialists.
-
Demonstrated experience managing outsourced IT providers and holding vendors accountable to SLAs.
-
Working knowledge of IT security fundamentals: access management, endpoint controls, incident response, and security vendor oversight
-
Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to healthcare (HIPAA, SOC 2) is a plus.
-
Comfort with contract review, license management, and vendor negotiation.
-
Strong process orientation — you document gaps, build standards, and close loops.
-
Ability to move between operational detail and strategic context.
What We Offer
-
Competitive salary and benefits
-
Remote-first work environment
-
High-impact role with direct visibility to executive leadership and PE investors
-
Opportunity to shape how technology scales a mission-driven healthcare organization.
-
A product and technology team that is building something meaningful.
Physical Requirements
-
This position requires the employee to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods while performing desk-based computer tasks.
-
The employee must be able to constantly operate a computer, keyboard, and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
-
The person in this position may need to occasionally move about inside the office/remote workspace to access file cabinets, office machinery, or other resources.
-
The employee may occasionally be required to lift and move objects weighing up to 10 pounds (e.g., a laptop, files, or small office equipment).
-
Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less is required for working with computers and reading small print.
