DefinitionUnder direction from the Director of Health Education, Outreach, Cultural and Linguistic (C&L) Services this position is responsible for the daily supervision of staff and assist with the evaluation and operation of the health education, cultural and linguistic services, and community outreach department.
Summary This individual has a critical role in the operations of the Department of Health Education, Outreach, Cultural and Linguistic Services. This department supervisor will have responsibility for scheduling and supervising department employees and for organizing and coordinating events of the department. In addition, the department supervisor has an important role in assisting the director in evaluating the effectiveness of department programs. The Supervisor shall have a solid background in health education and have experience in supervising individuals with diverse educational and professional experiences. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Major Functions and AccountabilitiesDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supervise staff and assist with the daily operation of the department.
- Assist with the scheduling of staff health education and outreach events, particularly for evening and week-ends.
- Demonstrate understanding of health education and cultural & linguistic services.
- Supervise health education programs to reduce health disparities, improve cultural competence and linguistic access.
- Assist with the preparation of internal job aid procedures as they relate to health education, cultural and linguistic services, and community outreach departments.
- Assist with the coordination of referrals and scheduling of staff for events, including evening and week-end events.
- Assist with the monitoring and program evaluation of health education and outreach activities.
- Assist the Director with the implementation of the Group Needs Assessment (GNA) survey as required by the Department of Health Care Services.
- Assist the Director with yearly program and regulatory audits for health education, cultural and linguistic services.
- Research and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, prepares statistical reports, and submits final report to Director of Health Education.
- Maintain a strong external presence within the provider community while promoting programs and services.
- Coordinate health education with health services and medical management.
- Assist the Director with provider relations, member services, and health services on specific training and in-service trainings on health education programs, cultural and linguistic services, and disease prevention activities.
- Assist with the coordination between the Departments of HE, C&L, and Outreach with the Department of Quality Improvement for the purposes of improving the quality of care to members of Gold Coast Health Plan.
- Performs such other duties as assigned by manager.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Licenses and Certificates
- All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid appropriate California driver’s license.
- Maintain a satisfactory driving record.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.

Essential duties require the following physical skills, abilities, and work environment: Physical Skills: Able to use standard office equipment, including a computer and other electronic equipment; arm, hand, finger, wrist, leg, or foot motion repetitively; firmly or lightly grasp items as needed; sit, stand, walk, kneel, and maintain sustained posture in a seated or standing position for prolonged periods of time; vision to read printed materials, a computer screen, and to work in a typical office environment; hearing and speech to communicate in person, over the telephone, and to make public presentations; lift and carry 30 pound boxes, files, and materials.
Ability to: Travel to off-site locations; drive safely to different sites and locations; work irregular hours including evenings and week-ends for meeting attendance or participation in specific projects or programs. Work Environment: Mobility to work in a typical office setting.
