Cashier/Deli Associate – Blue Star General Store
Overview
Blue Star General Store is looking for a friendly, dependable, and hardworking Cashier/Deli Associate to join our team. As the face of our neighborhood general store, you'll help create a welcoming experience for every customer while assisting with food preparation, cashiering, stocking, and keeping the store clean and organized. Every day is different, making this a great position for someone who enjoys variety and working with people.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers with a friendly attitude and provide excellent customer service.
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately for cash, credit card, and other payment transactions.
- Prepare deli foods, pizzas, sandwiches, baked goods, coffee, and other ready-to-eat items following recipes and food safety standards.
- Restock shelves, coolers, freezers, and displays throughout the day.
- Monitor product freshness and rotate inventory using first-in, first-out (FIFO) practices.
- Keep the deli, sales floor, dining area, and restrooms clean, organized, and well-stocked.
- Assist customers in locating products and answer questions about store offerings.
- Receive deliveries, stock merchandise, and maintain organized storage areas.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
- Work as a team to ensure the store is clean, efficient, and ready to serve customers throughout each shift.
- Perform other duties as assigned to help keep the store running smoothly.
Qualifications
- Previous cashier, retail, grocery, convenience store, deli, or food service experience is preferred but not required.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable handling cash and operating a computerized POS system.
- Basic math skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Dependable, punctual, and willing to work as part of a team.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Food safety knowledge or ServSafe certification is a plus.
Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour
