About the Role: We are seeking a reliable, patient, and engaging part-time companion for a 21-year-old young man. The primary goal of this role is to provide supervised companionship and active engagement while offering regular respite for his parents. This is not a traditional medical caregiving role; rather, it is a mentorship and companionship position focused on life guidance, social skill development, and sharing in his favorite activities.
About the Individual: He is a bright, high-functioning 21-year-old with Level 1 Autism and a minor learning difference. He has a strong Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile, meaning he responds best to collaborative, low-pressure interactions and declarative language rather than direct demands or authoritative approaches. He experiences hyper-fixations and can struggle with impulse control, so he thrives with a steady, grounding presence who can help him navigate the world safely.
His current interests include:
- Playing disc golf
- Video games
- Fishing
- Taekwondo
Key Responsibilities:
- Active Companionship: Keep him engaged, active, and entertained through his preferred hobbies (e.g., heading out to local parks for a round of disc golf, fishing, or playing video games together).
- Social Guidance: Facilitate outside social interactions and provide gentle, in-the-moment guidance on acceptable social frameworks and boundaries.
- Impulse & Dietary Regulation: Help him navigate impulsive decision-making and ensure adherence to his dietary needs through subtle redirection, modeling, and collaboration.
- Safe Supervision: Maintain a safe, supportive environment while providing parents with reliable respite time.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Has an understanding of—or a strong willingness to learn about—PDA and neurodivergent communication styles.
- Is active, easygoing, and willing to participate in physical activities like disc golf and fishing.
- Possesses strong emotional regulation and patience to help model healthy impulse control without escalating situations.
- Is dependable, trustworthy, and looking to make a meaningful, positive impact as a peer mentor.
Compensation & Schedule:
