Rockaway Animal Hospital is looking for a skilled, experienced Veterinary Technician to join our busy 9-doctor practice.
This is a hands-on technician role for someone who is confident with their technical skills, enjoys staying busy, and is ready to be an active part of the medical team.
We are looking for a technician who can confidently move between doctor appointments, technician appointments, procedures, discharges, triage and inpatient care while maintaining excellent patient care and attention to detail.

What You'll Be Doing
Our Veterinary Technicians are an integral part of our medical team and are expected to utilize their skills throughout the hospital.
Responsibilities may include:
- Performing blood draws and preparing samples for laboratory testing
- Placing and maintaining IV catheters (IVCs)
- Performing venipuncture and laboratory diagnostics
- Assisting with triage and assessing patients as they arrive
- Safely and appropriately restraining patients for examinations and procedures
- Assisting doctors during appointments and medical procedures
- Performing technician appointments
- Assisting with doctor appointments and obtaining thorough patient histories
- Administering medications and treatments as directed
- Preparing and administering vaccines
- Monitoring patients during procedures and treatments
- Performing patient treatments and nursing care
- Completing patient discharges and reviewing instructions with clients
- Providing ongoing inpatient and hospitalized patient care
- Monitoring hospitalized patients and communicating changes to the medical team
- Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment sheets
- Preparing patients for procedures and diagnostics
- Maintaining IV lines, catheters and treatment areas
- Communicating effectively with veterinarians and other members of the medical team
- Keeping treatment and exam areas clean, stocked and organized
- Assisting wherever needed to keep the hospital running efficiently
We Want a Technician Who Can Hit the Ground Running
The ideal candidate is confident, capable and experienced.
You should be comfortable with:
Blood Draws IVC Placement Triage Restraint Technician Appointments Doctor Appointments Patient Discharges Inpatient Care Diagnostics Treatments
You don't need to know everything on day one, but you should have a strong foundation of veterinary technical skills and be ready to use them.
What We're Looking For
- Previous Veterinary Technician experience required
- Strong hands-on technical skills
- Comfortable handling and restraining dogs and cats
- Confident performing blood draws and placing IVCs
- Comfortable with patient triage
- Able to work efficiently in a high-volume environment
- Strong understanding of veterinary patient care
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Dependable, organized and detail-oriented
- Able to prioritize multiple patients and tasks
- Comfortable working with multiple doctors and different patient needs
- Willing to jump in and help wherever needed
- Professional, compassionate and patient-focused
Cornerstone experience is a plus, but not required.

Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Previous veterinary technician experience required
- Must be comfortable handling dogs and cats
- Must be able to stand for extended periods
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Rabies vaccination required prior to employment
- Must be able to work effectively in a busy veterinary hospital
- Must be willing to participate in a working interview as part of the hiring process
Candidates without previous veterinary technician experience will not be considered.
