We are seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to support construction activities on an upcoming commercial and heavy civil project in Brownsville, TX. This position is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment used for site preparation, earthwork, excavation, grading, underground utilities, drainage, roadway construction, and other civil infrastructure activities.
The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment on large commercial, industrial, or heavy civil construction projects. Candidates must be able to perform daily equipment inspections, follow grade and project specifications, work safely around ground personnel and other equipment, and assist crews in meeting daily production goals.

Safely operate heavy construction equipment based on project needs, including:

Front-end loaders

Skid steers

Backhoes

Compactors and rollers

Articulated dump trucks

Water trucks, when properly licensed

Perform site preparation, clearing, excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, compaction, and material handling activities.

Excavate trenches and work areas for underground utilities, drainage systems, foundations, and other civil construction activities.

Load, move, spread, stockpile, and grade soil, aggregate, construction materials, and debris.

Follow construction plans, grade stakes, survey markings, elevations, and instructions provided by Foremen and Superintendents.

Operate equipment safely around laborers, utility crews, structures, vehicles, and other heavy equipment.

Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections and report equipment damage, safety concerns, or maintenance needs.

Complete required equipment inspection forms and maintain accurate operating records.

Follow established traffic patterns, spotter instructions, hand signals, and jobsite communication procedures.

Maintain proper grades, slopes, depths, elevations, and compaction requirements according to project specifications.

Assist with underground utility installation, roadway construction, drainage improvements, concrete operations, and general site development as needed.

Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and all project-specific safety requirements.

Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain safe work practices at all times.

Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist ground crews when equipment is not in operation.

Communicate equipment issues, underground utility concerns, unsafe conditions, and production delays to field supervision.

Minimum 3+ years of heavy equipment operating experience, preferably in commercial, industrial, or heavy civil construction.

Experience with site preparation, excavation, grading, trenching, underground utilities, roadway construction, or drainage projects.

Ability to safely operate equipment around ground personnel, active construction operations, and underground or overhead utilities.

Ability to understand grade stakes, elevations, survey markings, and basic civil construction plans.
-
Knowledge of equipment inspection procedures and basic preventive maintenance.

Strong understanding of OSHA requirements and heavy equipment safety practices.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively with Foremen, Superintendents, spotters, and ground crews.

Ability to work independently while maintaining production and quality requirements.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
-
Experience working on large commercial, industrial, infrastructure, roadway, or heavy civil construction projects.

Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment.
-
GPS machine control or automated grade control experience is a plus.

Experience working around underground utilities, excavation, drainage systems, and active roadway operations.

OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction certification preferred.

Equipment operator certifications are a plus.

Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Ability to sit and operate heavy equipment for extended periods.
-
Ability to repeatedly climb in and out of equipment using three points of contact.

Ability to walk active construction jobsites and navigate uneven terrain, excavation areas, slopes, mud, and loose materials.

Ability to bend, kneel, climb, push, pull, and perform physical construction activities as needed.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions, including heat, wind, rain, dust, and direct sunlight.

Must be able to wear all required PPE while on site.

Primarily based on an active commercial and heavy civil construction project.
-
Regular exposure to heavy equipment, moving vehicles, excavation activities, underground utility work, noise, dust, vibration, uneven terrain, and changing outdoor weather conditions.

Work may be performed near active construction crews, trenches, roadways, drainage systems, and other heavy civil operations.

May require overtime, weekends, early morning shifts, or extended work hours based on project schedules and operational needs.
