Overview
Our client, a leading electric utility company, is seeking an experienced Customer Meter Engineer to support the engineering, testing, and operation of electric revenue metering systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance of metering equipment while supporting smart meter initiatives, meter testing programs, and continuous improvements across utility operations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electric metering, utility engineering, and regulatory compliance, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, field services, and customer-facing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the engineering, implementation, and maintenance of electric revenue metering systems, including smart meter technologies.
- Develop, evaluate, and improve metering procedures, specifications, testing methods, and engineering standards.
- Manage and support regulatory meter testing programs to ensure compliance with applicable utility and industry requirements.
- Evaluate customer electrical drawings, metering equipment, transformers, and interface measurement systems.
- Coordinate with engineering, operations, vendors, and cross-functional teams on new metering technologies and system enhancements.
- Provide technical support for metering applications, software, and revenue measurement systems.
- Assist with forecasting, procurement, and implementation of electric metering equipment.
- Participate in troubleshooting, testing, and validation of new metering technologies.
- Support technical training initiatives and provide engineering guidance to operations and field personnel.
- Participate in regulatory and industry meetings while helping ensure compliance with applicable utility standards and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering .
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electric metering, electric utility engineering, or a related utility environment.
- Strong knowledge of electric revenue metering, utility distribution, transmission systems, and metering equipment.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, electrical specifications, and metering system designs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the utility service territory as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Experience supporting utility metering software applications and system maintenance.
- Experience working with utility regulatory agencies and compliance programs.
- Knowledge of smart metering technologies, engineering specifications, and industry standards.
