Manual Machinist II
Full-Time | Manufacturing / Machine Shop
We're seeking an experienced Manual Machinist II to join our manufacturing team. This is a hands-on machining position for someone who is comfortable operating manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other shop equipment and has strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
The ideal candidate takes pride in producing quality work, can work independently with general supervision, and has experience with precision machining, repair, rebuilding, or remanufacturing.
What You'll Do
- Operate manual machining equipment, including:
- Lagun American Turnmaster PowerOne Series lathes
- Lagun mills
- Grinders
- Drill presses
- Repair, rebuild, and fabricate precision parts and components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Perform measurements using precision tools such as calipers and micrometers.
- Design and develop fixtures, tooling, and machining procedures.
- Inspect and test completed work to ensure quality, accuracy, and specifications are met.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform general equipment maintenance.
- Work with other machinists and team members to exchange technical information and solve problems.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Support and mentor less experienced machinists.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Vocational school or machining apprenticeship preferred.
- 3–5 years of manual machining experience.
- Experience with manual lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses.
- Experience with repair, rebuilding, or remanufacturing work preferred.
- Ability to read blueprints and perform basic shop math.
- Strong understanding of metal properties and machining materials.
- Experience using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic computer skills for job tracking and Microsoft Office.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and team-oriented.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Stand and move throughout most of an 8+ hour shift.
- Frequently bend, lift, reach, and handle parts and tools.
- Regularly lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance; heavier items may require a team lift or equipment.
- Perform hands-on work requiring manual dexterity and steady hands.
- Operate machinery and shop equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, overhead cranes, and forklifts. Training is provided as needed.
- Work in a manufacturing/shop environment with exposure to moderate noise, metals, oils, and coolants.
- Work in varying temperatures depending on the season.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE.
