The Neenah Joint School District is accepting applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Custodian-1st shift at Spring Road Elementary School. The official start date is July 1, 2026, though an earlier start date, as soon as June 1st, can be accommodated.
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Under the direct supervision of the Building Principal and the Supervisor of Operations K-8, perform custodial duties for buildings facilities and grounds, while ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for the students, staff, and the general public.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Daily setup and takedown of furniture and equipment to assist in academic instruction, lunchtime, athletics and other building needs.
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, locker rooms, flooring, walls, fixtures, furniture, windows, and equipment.
- Perform minor maintenance on the building, equipment, and exterior grounds. Initiate work orders for other repairs, as needed.
- Organize and perform a complete building cleaning during summer months.
- Assist with summer shut-down and fall start-up of heating equipment and cleaning of all equipment and attachments in preparation for the boiler and pressure vessel inspections. Regularly change air filters, as needed.
- Change light bulbs and electrical ballasts, as needed.
- Initiate stock requisitions for necessary supplies.
- Snow shoveling and salting of sidewalks and entranceways, as needed.
- Coordination with the nightly outsourced cleaning crew, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Supervisor of Operations K-8.
HOURS OF WORK:
- First day of school – graduation day: Monday – Friday, 8 hours/day from approximately 6:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (includes 60-minute unpaid lunch)
- Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks: Monday – Friday, 8 hours/day from approximately 6:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. (includes 30-minute unpaid lunch)
- This is a building-level position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff, administrators, students, and the general public; and to work cooperatively with the operations and maintenance staff to assure facilities are clean, safe, properly maintained and secure.
- Must be a highly motivated and positive individual willing to take direction, work with minimal supervision, anticipate building needs, and make independent decisions leading to solutions of problems.
- Ability to become completely familiar with the physical plant and basic mechanical system operations.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Ability to work with hand tools and small power tools.
- Ability to work from high scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
- Knowledge and experience in the safe and efficient use of cleaners and solvents consistent with Right to Know Guidelines.
- Physical fitness and stamina to be able to lift 50 pounds, move furniture, operate floor machines, and shovel snow.
- Willingness to work scheduled overtime to meet building needs.
- Willingness to attend workshops and/or seminars to enhance job knowledge and skill level.
- Initiative in all areas of performance responsibilities.
- Ability to keep records of boiler blow-downs, fire alarm tests, salt logs, filter changes, etc.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from high school is required.
- Minimum of three years’ custodial experience is preferred.
