Begin an engaging contract position as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade in an educational setting near San Antonio, TX. This on-site role requires expertise in sign language interpretation and a commitment to fostering accessible learning environments for students with hearing needs. The assignment is anticipated to run from ASAP through May 26, 2027, with a weekly schedule likely set at 37.5 hours (confirmation pending). Placement will be at a single campus, working collaboratively within a supportive school community.
Qualifications:
- Valid certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or through the Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: BEI I or II (previous certification system), or Basic (current certification system)
- Experience interpreting in academic settings, especially with children ages pre-K through middle school, is highly desired
- Ability to pass district fingerprinting and background check requirements
- Professionalism, reliability, and adaptability for school-based assignments
- Prescreen interview may be required to determine suitability for placement
Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation services in classroom and school settings for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers to support inclusive education
- Adhere to professional interpreting standards and maintain student confidentiality
- Collaborate with classroom educators and related service providers as needed
- Support students’ daily participation and engagement across subjects, activities, and school functions
