Accounting Manager (Remote – Columbus, OH Area)
About the Role
A growing, private-equity-backed company providing licensing services to the automobile wholesale industry nationwide is strengthening its financial infrastructure and seeking an Accounting Manager who wants true ownership of the accounting function—not just responsibility for month-end close.
This is a hands-on, individual contributor role for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working independently, improving processes, and partnering closely with leadership. You will own core accounting operations and deliver clear, decision-ready financial reporting to leadership and the Board.
While this role is fully remote, candidates must reside in the Columbus, OH area to support occasional in-person collaboration
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
- Own the full monthly close process and reporting cadence
- Prepare GAAP financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
- Deliver Board-level reporting packages by the 15th business day of each month
- Analyze revenue trends, transaction volume, and average revenue per transaction
- Monitor gross margin and operating expense trends
- Manage AR/AP aging with a strong focus on collections and near-term cash needs
Cash Management & Forecasting
- Partner with FP&A to maintain a predictive cash flow model
- Provide visibility into cash balances, runway, and weekly cash movement
- Identify liquidity risks and timing considerations
Process Improvement & Systems
- Evaluate and improve accounting workflows and system integrations (Xero)
- Reduce manual processes and improve data accuracy
- Help scale accounting operations to support company growth
- Take ownership of ad hoc projects in a lean, fast-paced environment
Audit & Compliance
- Serve as primary contact for external accounting and tax partners
- Coordinate year-end audits
- Ensure timely and accurate tax filings
- Maintain compliance as the company grows
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
- Reliable, on-time monthly close with accurate GAAP reporting
- Clear, consistent Board-level financial reporting
- Improved cash visibility and forecasting accuracy
- More scalable, efficient accounting processes with reduced manual effort
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting (GL, AR/AP, payroll) and month-end close
- Experience owning accounting outcomes—not just executing transactions
- Strong ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Comfortable handling evolving priorities and new challenges
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Xero accounting software
