Farm Laborer – Job Description
Location: Two farm sites in Central Oʻahu
- Schofield/Kunia Farm: Approximately 1 acre
- Helemano Farm (near Dole Plantation): Approximately 17 acres
Position Summary
The Farm Laborer performs a variety of agricultural, landscaping, and flower production tasks in support of farm operations. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Harvesting plumeria and other flowers.
- Sewing and assembling fresh flower lei.
- Delivering flowers, lei, and other farm products.
- Clearing land and maintaining farm grounds.
- Installing and maintaining weed mat.
- Weeding, mowing, and general vegetation management.
- Hauling and disposing of green waste.
- Planting plumeria cuttings, seedlings, and other nursery stock.
- Collecting and transporting cuttings for propagation.
- Operating grass cutters, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, and other farm equipment.
- Propagating plants from seeds, cuttings, and seedlings.
- Picking up farm supplies, equipment, and materials as needed.
- Assisting with irrigation, fertilizing, pruning, mulching, and other general farm maintenance.
- Performing other farm-related duties as assigned.
The position requires work at two farm locations. The Schofield farm consists of approximately 1 acre, while the Helemano farm, located near Dole Plantation, consists of approximately 17 acres. The operation currently includes approximately ½ acre of plumeria at one farm and 2–3 acres of plumeria at the other, with additional agricultural production areas throughout both properties.
Physical Requirements
This position requires regular outdoor physical labor in a variety of weather conditions. Applicants must be able to:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, crouch, climb, and reach for extended periods.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment.
- Perform repetitive motions using hands, wrists, and arms, including harvesting flowers, sewing lei, planting, pruning, and operating hand tools.
- Work outdoors in sun, heat, humidity, rain, wind, dust, and uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Safely operate farm equipment, including string trimmers, grass cutters, hedge trimmers, wheelbarrows, hand tools, and other equipment after receiving appropriate training.
- Walk long distances across farm property while carrying tools, materials, or harvested products.
- Climb ladders when necessary to harvest flowers or perform maintenance.
- Possess sufficient vision, hearing, balance, and manual dexterity to safely perform essential job functions.
- Work independently and as part of a team while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in farming, landscaping, nursery, or agricultural work is preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are preferred.
- Ability to follow directions, work safely, and maintain a dependable attendance record.
- Willingness to learn new agricultural techniques and perform a variety of farm-related tasks.
Pay: From $16.00 per hour
