The Clinical Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation of the primary care practice and the delivery of high-quality patient care. This position is responsible for coordinating clinical workflows, triaging patient calls, supporting providers, and overseeing clinical staff to ensure proper coverage and adherence to protocols. The Clinical Coordinator serves as a resource and mentor for medical assistants and nursing staff, participates in quality improvement initiatives, and manages administrative and clinical responsibilities, including patient education, prior authorizations, and vaccine/medication management. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with a commitment to fostering a collaborative, patient-focused environment.
Education/Training:

Graduate of an RN accredited school of nursing

Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred

Departmental specialized training to provide care to patients within role and successful completion of hospital orientation program
Licenses/Certification:
-
Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse License

Responsible for keeping license and BLS current
Required Qualifications and Skills:

Able to assess and interpret data reflective of the client’s status

Previous experience in a medical/surgical environment required

Preferred Qualification and Skills:

Minimum of 2 years of experience ideally in an outpatient or clinical setting preferred.

Experience in patient assessment, care coordination, and supervising clinical staff

Strong clinical judgment, patient-care expertise, and ability to support clinical staff.

Communication and interpersonal skills to act as liaison between clinical staff, providers, and patients.
Essential Job Functions:
- Triage and document patient clinical calls in a timely and professional manner.

Conduct assessments by reviewing patient symptoms and history to determine the appropriate course of action.

Collaborate with providers to deliver medical advice and care recommendations based on clinical assessment.

Prioritize and complete clinical administrative tasks, including medication prior authorizations and documentation updates.

Communicate laboratory and imaging results to patients promptly and accurately.

Provide patient education and support for chronic disease management, including conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.

Review and manage the nurse’s schedule daily to ensure adequate coverage and workflow efficiency.

Work collaboratively with the clinical team to coordinate patient care and office operations.

Identify and escalate potential emergencies or urgent medical situations appropriately.

Partner with the Practice Manager and clinical team to develop, review, and update triage and clinical care protocols.

Facilitate physician-to-physician referrals to assist patients in obtaining timely appointments.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational performance.

Oversee vaccine and medication management, including storage, inventory, ordering, and regulatory reporting.

Serve as a resource and mentor for clinical staff, providing guidance and support on clinical workflows and best practices.

Assist with onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training of new medical assistants and nursing staff.

Monitor clinical staff performance and provide feedback to promote professional growth and accountability.

Support a culture of teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement within the clinical team.

May be exposed to all patient care elements within the hospital setting. Must meet annual safety training requirements. Risks of exposure: BFEs, electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards, ionizing radiation. Works any assigned shift within a 24-hour day. Works within hospital policies and procedures to minimize/prevent risk of exposure.
Salary Range: $28.32-$43.45

A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set, and education. For annual salaries this is based on full-time employment.
