Job Summary: Under the direction of the clinic managers and the designated physicians, the photographer is responsible for providing accurate fundus, anterior segment and external photography as order by the eye care provider while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status within a high-volume practice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtains patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, patient and family history of both ocular and general illnesses, history of allergies, and current medications.
- Accurately performs and documents visual acuity, confrontational visual fields, evaluation of motility, pupillary function tests, dilation, and ocular tonometry.
- Provide compassionate patient care throughout the clinic flow
- Maintains a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence as needed.
- Performs fundus, anterior segment and external photography as ordered by the eye care provider.
- Performs intravenous fluorescein angiographies and/or indocyanine green angiographies as ordered by the eye care provider.
- Performs scanning computerized ophthalmic diagnostic imaging (i.e. OCT, OCTA) as ordered by the eye care provider.
- Obtains informed consent form as it applies to angiographies.
- Maintains camera(s), related equipment and inventory of supplies.
- Maintains all patient-related records as they pertain to imaging systems.
- Maintains records of work performed.
- Obtains images for physician presentations as necessary.
- Troubleshoots equipment as necessary
- Occasionally assists physician with laser procedures, injections, and minor procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Competencies:
- Knowledge of ocular anatomy.
- Excellent communication skills.
Qualifications:
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- CRA and JCAHPO certification preferred.
- CPR certification required
Experience Requirements:
- Two to three years’ experience in ophthalmic photography and digital imaging preferred
Physical Abilities:
- Requires normal range of eyesight to perform necessary tasks involved with the photographing of images and developing of slides and film.
- Involves working in a small space in dimly-lit, or dark room.
