American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neonatal ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience.

Work takes place in a 53-bed NICU (with overflow, average census of 58) within a 247-licensed-bed Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital

Patient population includes complex neonatal diagnoses across respiratory (RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, VSD, HLHS, PDA, PPHN), neurological (seizures, IVH, HIE), and GI/GU/metabolic conditions (NEC, NAS, sepsis, congenital anomalies, and more)

Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3

EMR is Epic; experience is required

IV pumps include Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitoring via Philips

12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM (check-in 6:45 AM), 36 hours per week

Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other Saturday and Sunday within each 6-week schedule cycle

No on-call requirements for travelers; if the NICU cannot utilize you, floating to similar units may occur

Floating may be required to the Neonatal PCU or general pediatrics (including Pediatric CVICU and PICU) as a helping hand, unless prior experience in those areas qualifies for independent assignment

Schedule is set every 6 weeks based on unit needs after the core team schedule is finalized

Active NC or compact RN license required

Current BLS and NRP certifications required

Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year

Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced NICU environment

Epic EMR experience required

Required skills include: vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (ART lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, chest tube management, CRRT experience, Alaris and Medfusion pump management, aseptic/sterile technique, oral/nasal suctioning, g-tube/j-tube and feeding tube management, epidural and PCA management, sedation/analgesic drip management, and Foley insertion and management

Experience with EVDs, Camino devices (ICP/temp monitoring), HOFV management, and baby-side ECMO preferred (manager has shown flexibility on these specific skills)

Must provide the last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration

Must provide at least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted

Previous permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible

Responsibilities include caring for critically ill neonates across a wide range of diagnoses, performing bedside procedures alongside providers, and managing complex equipment and pharmacological infusions

Strong interdisciplinary support is available on every shift, including a charge nurse, unit secretary, IV/VAT/PCVC team, resource nurse, RT, intensivist, residents, APPs, centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring, unit-based educators (AM and PM), and 6 clinical supervisors

Orientation consists of 2 days of departmental onboarding

Travelers are expected to work holidays as scheduled; the unit requires coverage on the eve and/or day after a holiday and the day of the holiday, every other holiday while contracted

RTO requires manager approval; candidates with significant time-off needs may be asked to extend their contract to accommodate

Scrub color is navy; long-sleeve shirts underneath must be solid navy or white; scrubs must not be tight and should feature pediatric-friendly tops; no other organizationally branded attire

The unit follows a 'Bare Below Elbow' policy in nurseries — no watches, permanent or plastic jewelry, rings, or artificial nails are permitted

First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis with manager approval, depending on current staffing levels
