At Toward Independence, our Supervisors are hands-on leaders who help ensure individuals with developmental disabilities receive the support, care, and opportunities they need to live their fullest lives.
This is more than a supervisory position — you'll be a working leader who provides direct support while helping guide and develop your team.
What Makes This Position Different?
This is a working supervisor position. You won't be sitting behind a desk all day. You'll spend significant time directly supporting the individuals we serve while also leading and developing your team.
The position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week of direct care/billable services and may include weekends, evenings, extended hours, and on-call responsibilities.
What You Get To Do as a Supervisor.
Lead & Support Your Team
- Supervise and support Direct Support Professionals (DSPs).
- Coach, mentor, and train employees on job responsibilities and individual needs.
- Work with the Program Coordinator to develop staffing schedules based on individual needs.
Make a Difference in Individuals' Lives
- Support individuals with developmental disabilities in living meaningful, active, and independent lives.
- Follow Individual Service Plans (ISPs), behavior plans, and other individualized supports.
- Advocate for individuals' rights, choices, health, and safety.
Provide Direct Support
- Assist with activities of daily living, personal care, meals, transportation, and other individual needs.
- Support individuals during medical appointments and community activities when required.
Keep the Home Running Smoothly
- Help maintain a safe, clean, sanitary, and organized home.
- Review electronic service documentation and employee time entries.
- Ensure required inspections, drills, medication documentation, incident reports, and other records are completed.
Be a Leader When It Matters
- Communicate with families, healthcare providers, county boards, and other community partners.
- Help address staffing and employee concerns.
- Participate in on-call schedule.
What You'll Need
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health, healthcare, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to assist with physical and personal-care needs.
- Valid driver's license with 5 or fewer points.
- Ability to successfully complete required background and registry checks.

- Are you comfortable assisting individuals with personal care, hygiene, meals, medications, mobility, and other activities of daily living?
- Are you comfortable addressing employee performance issues and following established disciplinary procedures when necessary?
- Supervisors are responsible for ensuring staff coverage and providing support during all shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call situations, to maintain safe, high-quality care for individuals.
