Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Yard Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely maneuvering and transporting trailers within the yard, ensuring efficient loading and unloading processes. This role requires a strong understanding of various truck types. The Yard Driver will play a crucial role in maintaining the flow of freight operations while adhering to safety regulations. Typical work week contains 30+ hours of overtime.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailer combinations within the yard.
- Must be capable of safely backing, parking, and maneuvering a 53-foot trailer in tight spaces.
- Maneuver various types of trailers.
- Load and unload freight as required, ensuring proper handling and securing of cargo.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safety compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and deliveries.
- Collaborate with warehouse staff to coordinate loading schedules and ensure timely deliveries.
- Utilize forklifts or other equipment for loading/unloading tasks when necessary.
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations while operating equipment in the yard.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Experience with manual transmission vehicles is preferred.
- Familiarity with various truck types, including dump trucks and roll-off trucks.
- Previous experience as a delivery driver or in commercial driving is highly desirable.
- Ability to operate forklifts safely and efficiently.
- Strong understanding of route driving principles and freight handling procedures.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Must be open to working weekends and holidays.
