A School Worth Teaching In
At The Mountain Community School, science isn't a subject to get through. It's a way of seeing the world. We're looking for a Middle School Science Teacher who lights up when students start asking questions they didn't know they had and who understands that a great lab experience can change the way a kid thinks for the rest of their life.
If you're the kind of educator who gets energized by curious 11-year-olds and sees the middle school years as a launchpad instead of a holding pattern, this role was written for you.
What You'll Do
Design and teach science that actually sticks:
● Build and deliver standards-aligned instruction that connects science to students' real lives
● Lead hands-on labs, experiments, and field investigations that make concepts tangible
● Help students develop the habits of a scientist: asking good questions, analyzing evidence, and drawing conclusions
● Use formative data to adjust your approach and celebrate student progress
Lead a classroom where students want to be:
● Set the tone for a structured, safe, and intellectually engaging environment
● Hold high expectations while building real relationships with every student
● Communicate regularly and proactively with families
Contribute to a team and culture you're proud of:
● Show up as a collaborative, solutions-oriented colleague
● Participate in interdisciplinary planning and school-wide initiatives
● Model the professionalism, positivity, and growth mindset you want your students to develop
You're the Right Fit If...
You bring energy and curiosity to your classroom every day, even on hard days. You believe middle schoolers are capable of more than they're sometimes given credit for. You talk about students with belief and about colleagues with respect. You find problem-solving more interesting than complaining. You want to be part of something being built with intention, not just a place to punch in.
This isn't a placeholder job. It's a place to build something meaningful.
Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or advanced coursework preferred
● Valid North Carolina teaching license, or eligibility for NC licensure

● Genuine commitment to collaboration and continuous professional growth
