Assistant Construction & Home Repair Manager
Position Description
- Hours: Full time; normal weekday schedule, occasional evenings and weekends
- Compensation: $45,000.00 - $51,900.00 (dependent on experience)
- Benefits: 401(k) with employer match, health reimbursement, paid vacation and holidays
- Reports to: Construction Manager
Qualifications
A typical path to this position may include residential construction experience, supervisory experience, trade experience, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.

- Valid driver's license
- Basic knowledge of residential construction
- Ability to safely operate construction tools and equipment
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Areas of Responsibility
Construction Site Operations
- Assist in daily construction activities.
- Prepare work areas before volunteers arrive.
- Stage materials, tools, and equipment.
- Help maintain project schedules.
- Ensure work areas remain organized.
Volunteer Leadership
- Welcome volunteers.
- Provide hands-on instruction.
- Assign appropriate work tasks.
- Create a positive volunteer experience.
Site Safety
- Take Habitat International’s required OSHA training annually (about 3-4 hours online)
- Monitor proper PPE use.
- Help maintain safe work conditions.
- Report hazards immediately.
- Ensure tools are used properly.
Materials & Equipment
- Organize construction materials.
- Maintain tool inventory.
- Assist with deliveries.
- Help minimize waste.
- Maintain clean storage areas.
Construction Quality
- Assist in maintaining Habitat construction standards.
- Help identify construction deficiencies.
- Support punch-list completion.
- Perform quality workmanship.
Rock the Block & Home Repair Program Development
- Take a lead role in planning and coordinating Habitat’s Rock the Block initiative and complete much of the organizational groundwork necessary for a successful launch.
- Help identify repair projects and coordinate participating homeowners, volunteers, community partners, materials, resources, and event logistics.
- Following the Rock the Block initiative, assist the Executive Director and Board of Directors in evaluating whether home repair should continue as a standalone Habitat service.
- If a permanent home repair program is approved, help establish its policies, eligibility requirements, application and selection processes, funding sources, partnerships, project-management procedures, and long-term operational structure.
Communication & Teamwork
- Maintain effective communication with Construction Manager.
- Coordinate daily needs with office staff.
- Work collaboratively with volunteers and subcontractors.
- Represent Habitat professionally.
Facility & Vehicle Support
- Help maintain construction trailers, storage, and equipment.
- Assist with vehicle and trailer inspections.
- Report maintenance needs promptly.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Residential construction experience.
- Volunteer supervision experience.
- OSHA training.
- Knowledge of basic building codes.
- Equipment operation experience.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to:
- Lift 50+ pounds.
- Climb ladders.
- Work from scaffolding.
- Operate power tools.
- Stand, bend, kneel, and work outdoors for extended periods.
