EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Under general supervision, performs professional fire protection engineering work to ensure compliance with fire codes and laws.

Reviews construction plans and specifications to determine compliance with the Baltimore County Fire Prevention Code, Baltimore County Building Code, State of Maryland Fire Prevention Code, NFPA "Life Safety Code," and other standards and codes.

Evaluates and reviews sprinkler systems, fire line installations, construction materials, mechanical devices, chemical, gas, and flammable liquid installations, and fire protection equipment for compliance with fire code requirements.

Recommends materials, equipment, or methods for alleviation of conditions conducive to fire.

Reviews designs of sprinkler installations for sufficiency and code compliance.

Confers with other engineers, architects, building and fire officials, and personnel of other County agencies concerning the achievement of fire code compliance.

Conducts fire protection field inspections to resolve difficult or complex code issues.
Examples of Other Duties-
Represents the County and department at meetings of various organizations or societies on fire protection procedures.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification is essentially sedentary. Some duties, such as those associated with conducting inspections, require traveling between work sites, exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazards associated with construction sites, and limited physical activity such as walking, bending, stooping, and climbing.
