As Principal, you will:
- Lead and support all academic programs from Parent Infant through Grade 12.
- Promote a culture of excellence in teaching, learning, language acquisition, and student achievement.
- Oversee curriculum development, instructional practices, assessment, and academic initiatives.
- Ensure curriculum aligns with New York State Learning Standards and best practices in Deaf Education.
- Analyze student performance data and implement strategies that improve educational outcomes.
- Support innovative, evidence-based instructional practices that meet the diverse needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate teachers and instructional staff.
- Conduct formal and informal observations in accordance with New York State requirements.
- Foster professional growth through coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
- Partner with Human Resources and the Superintendent on recruitment, retention, staffing, and personnel matters.
- Ensure instructional programs remain rigorous, engaging, and responsive to student needs.
- Coordinate student assessments and monitor progress toward educational goals.
- Lead school improvement initiatives and support accreditation efforts when applicable.
- Encourage the effective integration of technology throughout the educational program.
- Oversee compliance with all Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and special education requirements.
- Collaborate with related service providers, families, and educational teams to support student achievement.
- Promote positive behavioral supports and restorative practices.
- Monitor attendance, graduation requirements, transition planning, and overall student progress.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local education laws and regulations.
- Maintain compliance with New York State Education Department requirements for approved private schools serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
- Oversee educational records, reporting requirements, student confidentiality, safety procedures, and mandated reporting obligations.
- Serve as an active member of the School Leadership Team.
- Work collaboratively with the Superintendent to advance strategic priorities.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, school districts, community agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Represent Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf at meetings, conferences, workshops, and community events.
- Support enrollment, outreach, and community engagement efforts.
- Assist with academic budgeting and responsible stewardship of instructional resources.
- Participate in strategic planning and long-range organizational initiatives.
- Attend Board of Trustees meetings and committees as requested.
- Serve as Acting Superintendent when designated.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Master’s Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- New York State School Building Leader (SBL) Certification, or the ability to obtain certification within six months of employment.
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
- At least three years of administrative or supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of New York State Education Department regulations and special education requirements.
- Understanding of best practices in Deaf Education, language acquisition, and bilingual ASL-English instruction.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
- Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Experience working in a school for the Deaf or specialized educational setting.
- Experience with bilingual ASL-English educational programs.
- Experience supervising instructional staff and conducting evaluations.
- Knowledge of New York State 4201 schools and funding structures.
Salary range $90,000-$125,000
