Job Summary:
Diagnose, adjust and repair all series of semi-trailers (53ft dry vans) including but not limited to the following: electrical, floor, wall panels, roof and brakes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work directly on the motor vehicle for safe operation
- Meets the minimum qualifications set forth in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
- Meets the Summitt Trucking job qualification guidelines
- Complies with all Company policies, programs, procedures, and processes by meeting the standards and requirements of each
- Complies with all DOT and other government regulations
- Properly completes, protects, and presents all required paperwork and documents in the required timeframes
- Able to work irregular work schedules in a variety of environments including adverse weather, hot or cold temperatures, noisy conditions
- Able to adequately handle the stress of tight schedules
- Inspects and identifies any safety defects on tractors
- Properly communicates with Management concerning trailer issues
- Performs all the requirements as stated above in a safe, timely and conscientious manner
Qualifications:
· High School diploma or GED required. Vocational/Technical maintenance certification preferred.
· Minimum of 2 years practical experience with tractor/trailer maintenance required.
· Proficiency in the use of all tools of the trade including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools required.
· Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
· Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance system.
· A current, valid driver’s license is required. Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred or willingness to acquire CDL
Working Conditions:
- Able to work 40 + hours weekly
- Ability to withstand seasonal temperatures and weather conditions when outside work is performed.
- Must be able to walk the entire perimeter of the yard
- Able to get in and out of a trailer up to 12-15 times per day
- Able to operate foot pedals and other controls of tractor-trailer unit and forklift
- Able to bend, squat, twist and get under the trailer to check components, and climb up on tractor catwalk if needed
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds 10 to 50 times per day
- Able to push and pull levers, handles, doors, binders, and cargo with a force of up to 100 pounds 10 to 50 times per day
- Able to stand or lie down in awkward positions for long periods of time on various surfaces
- Able to maintain balance while performing various maneuvers including climbing, exiting, walking, twisting, crouching, turning, etc. while on various surfaces, uneven terrain, slippery surfaces, etc.
- Able to lift various sized, configured, and weighted packages and objects of up to 50 pounds above head
- Able to wear required personal protection equipment associated with specific work environment and job duties
- High level of noise
- Ability to handle high stress situations
