The City of Brunswick is seeking a highly qualified Maintenance Superintendent to lead the day-to-day operations of the Public Works Maintenance Division. This supervisory position is responsible for overseeing maintenance crews, directing field operations, managing infrastructure projects, coordinating emergency response activities, and ensuring the safe and effective maintenance of City facilities and infrastructure.
The Maintenance Superintendent supervises operations associated with streets, stormwater systems, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, signage, parks, public grounds, snow removal, and City-owned buildings and facilities. The position provides back-up support and oversight for water and sewer maintenance operations and serves as a primary on-call contact for maintenance-related emergencies and after-hours service requests.
Key Responsibilities:
· Supervising and directing maintenance personnel and field operations.
· Planning, scheduling, and inspecting maintenance projects and contractor work.
· Managing inventory, equipment maintenance programs, and operational readiness.
· Developing and enforcing safety programs and workplace safety standards.
· Assisting with employee hiring, training, performance management, and discipline.
· Participating in departmental budgeting, capital planning, and project prioritization.
· Coordinating emergency response efforts and after-hours maintenance activities.
· Collaborating with other departments, contractors, and utility operations staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED.
· Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible maintenance or public works experience.
· Valid driver's license.
· Proficiency with technology and Microsoft Office applications.
· Must have or be able to obtain the following licenses:
· Permanent Maryland Water Distribution Operator Grade D1 License.
· Permanent Maryland Wastewater Collection System Operator Grade C2 License.
· Maryland Water Distribution Superintendent License.
· Maryland Wastewater Collection Superintendent License.
· Maryland Water Sampling License.
· SHA Traffic Control Manager Certification.
· Maryland Pesticide Applicator License.
· Valid CDL.
· Local government experience preferred.
The successful candidate must possess strong leadership, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills and be capable of making independent operational decisions during regular and emergency situations.
