The incumbent is responsible for mechanical design / documentation and production unit support as required on assigned projects. Through application of engineering standards and the process of continuous improvement, the incumbent will provide reliable, high quality and cost-effective product designs. The incumbent will develop, change and maintain accurate drawings and bills of materials of parts and assemblies, as well as develop and maintain company engineering drawing standards. The incumbent will maintain close relationships with the production unit to promote effective communication and ensure designs meet specifications.
The incumbent will have an associate degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
EXPERIENCE/ REQUIREMENTS:
One to five years of experience in equipment design, preferably capital equipment, machine tool, automation, or stamping press design.
Proficiency with 2D drafting and 3D parametric modeling. Experience with AutoCAD and CREO preferred but not required.
A strong understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing standards (such as ASME Y14.5).
Computer proficiency including Excel, Word, and Teams.
General knowledge of integrated business information systems. Experience with SAP preferred but not required.
Keen interest in expanding one’s knowledge of DFM/DFA procedures and processes, large weldments, castings, pneumatics, hydraulics and machining operations.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Create effective mechanical and piping designs that add value to the product while controlling costs. Ensure engineering drawings are correct and drawing standards, as well as any additional requirements of the engineering department, manufacturing department, purchasing department or our customers.
Prepare properly dimensioned and toleranced drawings of parts and assemblies to ensure manufacturability. Calculate stack up of dimensions and check for proper fits and interferences of assemblies.
Develop and maintain mechanical parts database and customer BOM’s within the company’s ERP system.
Participate in the creation of engineering standards for AIDA-America Engineering Department.
Work as required and /or requested to keep projects on or ahead of schedule.
Act as liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing/Assembly and outside vendors to ensure the manufacturability of all designed parts and assemblies. Investigate and help resolve engineering or design related problems that occur with parts and assemblies in the design and manufacturing phases.
Keep abreast of new developments in the area of machine design, CAD/CAM and other engineering hardware and software by participating in professional associations and maintaining close contacts with experts in the field.
Develop or improve ways to reduce costs within the department and company while meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
Travel as required in order to accomplish assigned projects. Must be able to work and/or travel on weekends as necessary to accomplish goals and objectives.
Report progress of assignments verbally and in writing to supervisor as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
