ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This dual-role Direct Support Professional (DSP) will be cross-trained to provide both Community Habilitation services and serve as a Dance Instructor for a recreational dance program for individuals with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will support individuals to become more independent in daily living while also leading engaging, safe, and enjoyable dance classes for OPWDD-eligible participants aged 12 and up. This position requires strong communication, creativity, organizational skills, and a passion for working with diverse populations. Off-Site (Dance Classes), Community-Based (Com Hab in Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties)
Principal Activities
Dance Program Responsibilities
- Prepare, choreograph, and lead bi-monthly dance sessions.
- Develop lesson plans tailored to students’ ability levels (ballet, jazz, hip hop, urban line, etc.).
- Create an inclusive, safe, and engaging environment that promotes movement, socialization, and self-expression.
- Communicate with participants and families regarding schedules, progress, and performances.
- Maintain accurate records, including intakes, program logs, attendance, and program reports.
Community Habilitation Responsibilities
- Assist individuals in achieving goals outlined in their Life Plans and Staff Action Plans.
- Provide direct support to promote independence through skill-building in community and/or home settings.
- Facilitate opportunities for community involvement, recreation, volunteering, and learning.
- Monitor and ensure safety while supporting individuals in various environments.
- Maintain timely and complete documentation in compliance with agency and OPWDD standards.
General Responsibilities

Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Dance background required; experience teaching preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
- Must have current auto insurance and reliable transportation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to complete electronic documentation.
- Strong communication skills—both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple responsibilities.
- Must meet HIPAA and agency confidentiality requirements.
- Must be dependable, flexible, and able to work varying hours.
- Physically able to lift 20 lbs, bend, kneel, twist, and walk moderate distances.

Pay: $17.00 per hour
