HOURLY RATE: Starting at $20/per hour
SUMMARY:
The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for verifying incoming materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, coordinating material movement, and supporting production operations through material kitting and shipment preparation. This position works closely with Operations, Production, and Materials teams to ensure required components are available, properly staged, and accurately tracked to support manufacturing schedules. The Inventory Control Specialist reports directly to the Operations Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
- Verify incoming steel, hardware, and related materials against Bills of Materials (BOMs), cutsheets, purchase orders, and engineering drawings.
- Assemble production “kits” for utility pole manufacturing by pulling and organizing required components for individual projects.
- Maintain manual inventory tracking systems, including logs, stock counts, and paper-based inventory records.
- Utilize tape measures and other measuring devices to confirm incoming materials meet required dimensions and specifications shown on technical drawings.
- Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport materials, load/unload deliveries, and stage completed kits for production.
- Coordinate and prepare outgoing material shipments to external plants or suppliers utilizing intercompany shipment documentation and processes.
- Communicate with suppliers, internal departments, and other Race Rock facilities regarding inventory discrepancies, shortages, count variances, or other production-related concerns via email and Microsoft applications.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to report stock levels, material shortages, damaged materials, and inventory discrepancies.
- Assist with cycle counts, inventory audits, and material organization within the plant and yard areas.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in accordance with company safety standards and policies.
- Frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds and work in both indoor industrial and outdoor yard environments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, manufacturing, or material handling preferred.
- Previous forklift operating experience required.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and industrial cutsheets.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations and use measuring devices accurately.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to accurately track and maintain inventory records.
- Proficient in reading tape measures and verifying dimensional requirements.
- Knowledge of safe material handling and forklift operation practices.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across departments and facilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing production needs.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and safety-first mindset.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Successful candidate must submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check.
- Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license is a requirement for this job.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work is performed in a heavy industrial manufacturing plant and outdoor yard environment.
- Exposure to moving mechanical equipment, forklifts, overhead cranes, varying temperatures, dust, and noise.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying materials up to 50 pounds.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
