Automotive Shop Foreman / Lead Diagnostic Technician
Steubenville Pike Auto
Robinson Township, PA
Steubenville Pike Auto is seeking an experienced Automotive Shop Foreman / Lead Diagnostic Technician to oversee mechanical operations across our three divisions:
- General automotive repair
- Used-vehicle sales and reconditioning
- Auto body and collision repair
This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced technician who can diagnose difficult problems, organize shop workflow, support other technicians, and make sure vehicles are repaired correctly before they are returned to customers or placed on the sales lot.
The right person will serve as the technical leader of our operation. You must be comfortable turning wrenches, solving difficult diagnostic problems, assigning work, checking repair quality, and communicating clearly with management, technicians, parts personnel, the body shop, and the sales department.
Responsibilities
- Lead the daily workflow of the mechanical repair shop
- Diagnose difficult electrical, drivability, engine, transmission, HVAC, suspension, brake, and emissions concerns
- Assign work based on technician ability, workload, urgency, and parts availability
- Assist technicians when they encounter difficult or unusual repairs
- Inspect newly purchased vehicles and create accurate mechanical reconditioning plans
- Review estimates for labor accuracy, parts requirements, and possible additional repairs
- Perform advanced diagnostic and repair work as needed
Qualifications
- At least 8–10 years of professional automotive repair experience preferred
- Strong diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Previous experience as a shop foreman, lead technician, master technician, or diagnostic technician
- Experience with used-vehicle inspections and reconditioning strongly preferred
- Ability to use professional scan tools, service information, wiring diagrams, scopes, meters, and diagnostic equipment
- Understanding of mechanical systems affected by collision repairs
- Ability to estimate labor time and identify necessary parts accurately
- Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple vehicles and keep work moving between departments
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Must have standard professional technician tools
- ASE certifications are preferred but not required
- Pennsylvania Safety Inspection and Emissions licenses required
- ADAS, programming, module replacement, or advanced scan-tool experience is a major plus
The Ideal Candidate
You may be a good fit for this position if you are the technician other technicians approach when they cannot solve a problem.
We are looking for someone who can say:
“Here is what is wrong, here is what it needs, here is who should handle it, and here is how we will get it finished.”
This is not a desk-only management position. The foreman will remain involved in diagnostics, difficult repairs, vehicle inspections, technician support, and final quality control. However, success in this role also requires leadership, organization, accountability, and the ability to keep the entire shop moving.
