More info:
The Oklahoma Lions Eye Bank is a non-profit organization that recovers corneal tissue from deceased donors and prepares the tissue for placement and transplant to recipients in need. In effect, the eye bank facilitates the restoration of sight. Eye bank technicians recover the tissue, gather and organize relevant donor medical/social information, and perform other duties to determine if each tissue is safe for transplant. The tissues are frequently processed in the eye bank laboratory to surgeon specification for each surgery need. The Quality Assurance Coordinator works with the technicians to ensure that all pertinent and required information is sought out and documented. The Quality Assurance Coordinator also performs audits of donor files and laboratory records, and reports findings to and works under the supervision of the Director of Quality Assurance. These duties are performed primarily at a computer station, and frequent communication is performed via a variety of methods. The coordinator may have exposure to graphic medical images and will frequently read records that describe circumstances leading to death and the attempts at life-saving measures used during the process. Time is of the essence in all cases so deadlines and pressure to perform at a fast pace are to be expected. Attention to detail is the most important of all skills in this position.
The Quality Assurance Coordinator should have a bachelor’s degree in a science-related field or at least 2 years’ experience working in a regulated industry.
Knowledge and experience with FDA regulations and quality systems (cGTP or cGMP) are highly preferred. Technical writing, medical knowledge, and medical terminology are also preferred to understand aspects of eye banking. Consideration will be given to candidates with equivalent experience or knowledge from a cross-over profession or industry. The coordinator should be familiar with MS Office and donor databases. The position requires excellent people skills, as well as effective written and verbal skills for both internal and external communication. Must also be organized, detail oriented, and have excellent critical thinking and analytical skills. Familiarity with EBAA or AATB medical standards is a plus.
Driving may be required; a valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle is a requirement for employment.
