Job Description:
We're looking for a Seasoned Interior Designer who holds the creative vision for a home and runs the back-end that brings it to life. You're the rare designer who lights up in a mood board and on a construction site. You'll carry projects from concept through install, interpret and advance the k+co vision while bringing original ideas of your own, bring concepts to life in sketch-up or other, mentor the people coming up behind you, and help keep our studio as smart and modern as the homes we design.
About k+co LIVING:
We are k+co LIVING, a Karen B Wolf Interiors design studio based in Short Hills, with a second home on Long Beach Island in Beach Haven. We're a recognized residential design firm servicing New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Florida, and we specialize in full-service, turn-key interiors for ground-up new construction and extensive renovations.
Our signature is everyday resort style. Our warm modern interiors are built on clean architectural lines, layered materials, organic texture, and curated color. We're a small, tight team where your work is visible, your ideas land on real projects, and you grow under a principal who's genuinely invested in your career.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Own multiple residential projects from concept through install with minimal supervision, upholding the k+co aesthetic and standards.
- Advance the Principal's vision with strong concepts, space planning, 3D drawings, FF&E direction and contribute original ideas of your own.
- Produce and oversee complete drawing sets plans, elevations, details, specs, and schedules in CAD, and bring spaces to life in SketchUp.
- Source, quote, and specify FF&E and finishes and prepare proposals.
- Build polished client decks and materially accurate boards, and present them clearly and confidently.
- Be the primary point of contact for clients, vendors, and trades with clear communication and consistent follow-through.
- Lead in the field. Attend site meetings, walkthroughs, and installs from Short Hills to the shore; troubleshoot in real time with GCs, fabricators, and trades (some regional travel comes with the territory).
- Make us sharper. Put AI to work and help refine our internal processes and documentation to raise quality and efficiency across the studio.
- Mentor our junior and intermediate designers. Review their work, share what you know, and support their growth.
What's In It For You:
- Your time back. No Lincoln Tunnel, no 90-minute each-way grind, no commuting your weekends away. Do the best work of your career and still be home for dinner.
- Real ownership. At a boutique studio you're not designer #40 detailing someone else's vision. You lead whole projects, sit close to the principal, and your fingerprints are on the finished home.
- City-to-coast variety. One project a Short Hills new build, the next a beach house on LBI. You won't get bored.
- A studio you actually like being in. Warm, collaborative, in-person energy, and a team that cares about both the craft and you. Plus a curated home shop with employee discounts.
- Competitive compensation. Base salary $75,000+ commensurate with experience, plus health benefits, paid time off, professional development support, and a generous studio discount.
What We're Looking For:
- 5+ years in full-service / high-end residential design, with a portfolio that shows concept-to-completion leadership.
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Interior Design or Architecture.
- Advanced SketchUp and CAD; strong Adobe Creative Suite; rendering tools (Enscape, 3ds Max) a plus or Chief Architect.
- Real fluency and curiosity with AI tools, and an interest in helping the studio adopt them thoughtfully.
- Strong project management instincts, comfortable running multiple timelines and budgets at once without dropping a stitch.
- A strong command of materials, detailing, and current residential trends
- Established relationships across vendors, showrooms, and fabricators.
- Highly organized, self-directed, and excellent at written, verbal, and presentation communication.
- Meticulous attention to detail and calm, practical judgment during construction and installation.
- Someone who fits how we work: collaborative, in-studio, low-ego, high-craft.
