Job Overview
We are seeking a Staff Accountant – Tax & Audit to join our growing team in Greeneville, Tennessee. This position will assist with a mix of tax preparation, governmental and nonprofit audit work, accounting support, and client service.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, willing to learn, and comfortable working on a variety of accounting projects throughout the year. This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys both tax and audit work, wants exposure to a broad range of clients, and values working in a smaller firm environment where teamwork and client relationships matter.
Experience with governmental or nonprofit audits is helpful, but we are willing to train the right candidate who has a strong accounting foundation and a desire to grow.
Responsibilities
- Preparing individual and business tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, and related state filings.
- Assisting with governmental, nonprofit, and other audit engagements.
- Preparing audit workpapers and supporting documentation.
- Assisting with financial statement preparation, reviews, compilations, and agreed-upon procedures as needed.
- Communicating with clients to request documents, answer basic questions, and follow up on outstanding items.
- Reviewing client-provided records for completeness and accuracy.
- Assisting with bookkeeping, payroll reports, sales tax, business tax, annual reports, and other recurring client needs.
- Using accounting and tax software to prepare, organize, and document client work.
- Maintaining accurate records and meeting internal deadlines.
- Supporting partners, managers, and other staff with tax season, audit fieldwork, and year-round accounting projects.
- Participating in firm training and continuing professional education as needed.
Experience
Preferred qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
- Prior experience in public accounting, tax preparation, audit, bookkeeping, or governmental/nonprofit accounting is helpful.
- CPA license, CPA eligibility, or interest in pursuing CPA certification is a plus, but not required.
- Knowledge of individual and business tax returns is helpful.
- Experience with governmental or nonprofit audits is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with numbers and documentation.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Comfortable learning new software and using technology in a professional environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer skills.
- Positive attitude, dependability, and willingness to learn.
Pay: $55,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
