REINS Inc., a nonprofit equine assisted services center in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, is seeking an experienced, passionate equine professional to join our team. This leadership position is ideal for someone who is committed to exceptional horse care, enjoys mentoring volunteers, and wants to make a meaningful difference through equine-assisted services.
This position will oversee the daily care and management of our herd of program horses while helping deliver safe, high-quality adaptive riding and equine-assisted programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Herd Management & Horse Care
- Oversee the daily health, nutrition, conditioning, and overall well-being of the equine herd.
- Develop and implement conditioning and maintenance programs to ensure horses remain healthy and fit for therapeutic work.
- Administer medications and coordinate veterinary and farrier care.
- Monitor pasture rotation and seasonal herd management.
- Assist with evaluating and integrating new program horses.
- Maintain accurate health and care records and commuication with horse owners.
Barn & Facility Management
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and efficient barn environment.
- Oversee arenas, paddocks, fencing, pastures, and facility grounds.
- Conduct routine inspections and perform minor repairs.
- Identify and communicate larger maintenance needs.
- Ensure the facility meets high standards of safety and cleanliness.
Volunteer & Staff Leadership
- Train, supervise, and support volunteers in horse handling, grooming, tacking, and barn procedures.
- Foster safe horse handling practices and adherence to facility protocols.
- Provide leadership that encourages teamwork and a positive volunteer experience.
Instruction & Program Support
- Teach mounted and unmounted lessons as needed (CTRI).
- Provide substitute instruction when necessary.
- Create engaging learning opportunities utilizing REINS' equine partners.
- Collaborate with instructors and staff to provide safe, participant-centered programming.
Organizational Support
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
- Participate in strategic planning related to herd management, facilities, and program development.
- Support the continued growth and success of REINS' mission.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Equine Science, Animal Science, or a related field preferred.
- Current PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI), or eligible and willing to obtain certification.
- Significant experience in equine management, barn operations, and horse training.
- Experience teaching riding lessons; therapeutic or adaptive riding experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of equine behavior, nutrition, health, and herd management.
- Demonstrated leadership experience supervising staff and/or volunteers.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform physical barn duties and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
