ROLE TYPE
Customer service / order support
This is not a call-center or retail support job. This is a hands-on industrial customer service role for someone who likes solving problems, staying organized, and helping manufacturing customers keep their operations moving.
As an Industrial Customer Service Representative at Fluid Engineering, you will be a key connection point between customers, outside sales engineers, applications engineers, and manufacturers. You will help turn quotes into orders, track complex equipment and parts, coordinate lead times, and communicate clearly when customers need answers fast.
Why this role matters: When an industrial plant needs a pump, fan, dust collector, scrubber, part, or engineered solution, delays and confusion can be expensive. Your work helps customers get the right information, the right equipment, and the right follow-up at the right time.
Order Management & Quotes
- Process B2B purchase orders and match customer requirements against internal quotes, manufacturer documentation, and project details.
- Prepare, enter, and follow up on quotes for parts, equipment, service items, and engineered solutions.
- Review purchase orders, delivery terms, pricing, scope, and exceptions before order entry so issues are caught early.
- Coordinate lead times, shipping details, and status updates with manufacturers, customers, outside sales, and internal team members.
- Track open orders and communicate proactively, so customers know the status.
Technical Support & Account Coordination
- Serve as a dependable first point of contact for customer questions related to industrial equipment, parts, order status, and documentation.
- Work closely with applications engineers to verify part numbers, equipment compatibility, replacement options, and specific requirements.
- Maintain accurate customer records, service history, quote activity, and communication notes in company systems.
- Build practical working relationships with plant maintenance teams, engineers, procurement contacts, manufacturers, and Fluid Engineering sales engineers.
- Help customers navigate urgent situations, including downtime, repair needs, expedited orders, and shutdown-related requests.
- You are organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling multiple open orders, requests, and follow-ups without losing track.
- You like learning how things work and are not intimidated by industrial equipment, part numbers, drawings, data sheets, or technical terminology.
- You communicate clearly, professionally, and directly by phone, email, and internal notes.
- You enjoy being part of a team where sales, applications engineering, operations, and customer service work together to solve problems.
- You take ownership. If a customer needs an answer, you either find it, follow up on it, or make sure the right person is engaged.
- You understand that great customer service is not just being friendly. It is accurate, responsive, and dependable.
- 3+ years of experience in customer service, inside sales, order management, purchasing, operations support, or a related role in an industrial, manufacturing, distribution, technical, or B2B environment.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to work efficiently in Microsoft Office and business systems such as ERP, CRM, or Microsoft Dynamics platforms.
- Ability to read, compare, and organize information from quotes, purchase orders, data sheets, drawings, emails, and manufacturer documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain status, requirements, and technical information in plain language.
- Sound judgment, follow-through, and problem-solving skills in time-sensitive situations.
- Experience with pumps, fans, dust collectors, scrubbers, pneumatic conveying equipment, filtration systems, industrial parts, or engineered equipment.
- Experience supporting outside sales teams, manufacturing reps, distributors, contractors, or plant maintenance customers.
- Comfort working with manufacturers on lead times, submittals, order acknowledgments, freight, returns, and warranty questions.
- Exposure to industrial customers in pulp and paper, chemical processing, food manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities, general manufacturing, or similar markets.
- A stable, privately held company with a technical, team-oriented culture.
- A role where your accuracy, responsiveness, and customer ownership directly matter.
- Varied work that combines customer service, technical coordination, inside sales support, and operational follow-through.
- Competitive compensation and benefits package, including medical and dental insurance, paid vacation, paid holidays, and a 401(k) plan with profit sharing.
- The opportunity to learn industrial equipment and build a valuable long-term career in a specialized B2B market.
